I have lead photography safaris to Africa since 2009 and exclusively use Maasai Wanderings as my outfitting service of choice. Their care and concern for meeting the needs of my clients really is above compare. Their knowledge of the flora and fauna plus their willingness to share it with my clients sets the standard that other outfitters and safari services should work to obtain. One of my clients from Washington state wrote: The Accommodations, transportation and meals arranged by Maasai Wanderings for us were safe, comfortable and relaxed. They found everything there was to see. We were able to photograph Africas 'big five' and so much more! Birds, mammals, reptiles, scenics, and Maasai warriors; nothing was missed. Maasai Wanderings got us there, while our safari leader Tom Whetten helped us capture more than just great photographs; we tasted Africa. Another client from Florida wrote: The guide company Tom used (Maasai Wanderings) was excellent. I had heard horror stories about some of the companies, but this operation was great! One of the driver/guides we had was a born spotter, he could see animals at distances that were incredible and with that we had an advantage to reach photo sites others may never encounter (the 'Eyes of Godwin'). This was the best trip I have ever taken. So much so, I plan on returning to Africa to (hopefully) climb Mount Kilimanjaro with Maasai Wanderings as my outfitting service. NOTE: Doreen did return to African and climbed Kili and yes she used Maasai Wanderings. Another client from Arizona wrote: The guides we had in Tanzania, Nas and Godwin, were very knowledgeable. They knew the habitat of the animals and exactly where we could find them. If we had questions they had an answer for us and you knew it was not a made up answer. If we were on the road and wanted a shot of something they would stop, no questions asked. My thanks to the owners of Maasai Wanderings Donna Dugan and Naseeb Mfinanga for their years of outstanding service to me and my clients.
This review concerns our private trip in Tanzania with Maasai Wanderings in June 2014 (2 weeks). It was our first time in this country. We came there mainly to enjoy wildlife, nature, landscapes and good sightseeing. And the least one can say is that we really enjoyed all what we saw. From Tarangire and its huge herds of elephants (we also spotted a leopard) to the magic landscapes and animals of N'Gorongoro Crater and the greatness of Serengeti and the millions of wildebeests and Zebras, everything has been above our expectations. And what about the cheetahs, giraffes, lion cubs playing, eagles, antelopes, buffaloes, hippopotamus, sunsets... Even meeting Masaai tribes and knowing a bit more how they live was interesting. Our guide was very kind. He gave us a lot of information on wild life and his country and always in a friendly way. He was moreover constantly ready to adapt to us (safaris time, pause for restroom, moving back or forwarding on demand to let us having the best possible view to watch animals)... We were initially a bit anxious experimenting tented camps but we finally decided trying Nasikia Tented Camp after being advised by Donna. It was a great, completely different of classic lodges and safe experience in immersion in the middle of the bush. Listening all the noise of the bush at night while you are in your bed is pretty existing. Our kids are still talking about those nights where we heard lions roaring, hyenas away. More generally you are closer to the nature in tented camp and still get all expected accommodations (true bed, private shower, private flush toilette, very kind staff, cooked meals etc.). Now that we know what tented camp is, if we have to go back one day in Tanzania for safaris we will book more nights in tented camps. Our final days to Zanzibar were a good idea to relax, chill out. Warm temperatures, sun, white sand, palm trees, turquoise water and amazing diving spots to continue your safari under water this time. We also did the 'spice tour' and 'dolphin tour'. To conclude, we saw a lot of wild animals, were perfectly guided (in a friendly atmosphere), experimented and enjoyed tented camps and finally relaxed in Zanzibar. Thank you again to all Masaai Wanderings' staff for this great and unforgettable experience.
Hosting photography tours in Tanzania is a special experience. I bring people here from all over the world, to be guided by Maasai Wanderings. Travel to this distant location demand a lot of trust. After hosting 4 tours so far, and more planned, I have established a great friendship with Donna and Nas, owners of this awesome business. Their contacts, accommodations, guides, services, and communications are nothing short of superb. Please take a moment to review some of the images I have prepared, to help quantify my opinions of this company. best regards - Raymond Barlow
A group of 7 of us decided to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro & then to go on safari. The whole adventure was with Maasai Wanderings. For this review I will focus on the safari. The lodges where we stayed were fantastic, clean, and well-serviced. The meals provided, both by the lodges and the packed lunches, were nourishing and plentiful. The game viewing was outstanding and special thanks to Everest our game ranger who was a fountain of knowledge and had eyes in the back of his head! Having done a few game drives in the past this was by far the most outstanding experience. Maasai Wanderings were professional, organised and the staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and very accommodating. I hope to return to this wonderful piece of heaven on earth and I would definitely go with Maasai Wanderings again.
My husband and I were delighted with the responsiveness, efficiency and general professionalism of Maasai Wanderings. We wanted to visit both the Ngorongoro Crater and go to the Mara River for a hoped for wildebeest migratory crossing. Donna in the office always replied to our many and varied questions extremely promptly and formulated an itinerary which was ideal for us. The vehicles were not plush, but they were utilitarian and exactly what was needed for the bumpy roads and multitudes of gulleys in the nature reserves. Our driver for the whole trip was David Anatory and I cannot praise him highly enough. His knowledge of the local flora and fauna was second to none, he even made a tortoise interesting! More importantly though he knew the habitat and animal habits so well we often saw things with his pole pole (slowly, slowly) attitude that a lot of the other tour guides missed for their clients; for example he spotted a leopard on a huge boulder quite a long distance from the road and we watched for 20 minutes whilst a small group of zebra wandered by (which could have, but did not, result in a chase) two other vehicles saw us, stopped, assumed we were only watching the zebra and drove off seeing an elusive leopard, one of the big five is a bonus and you need a good guide. For us, and many of you reading this review, this is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure holiday choose wisely, choose Maasai Wanderings.
We are South African and have had many safari experiences; but going to Tanzania was the ultimate bush experience with a touch of luxury! Massai Wanderings were very organised and our guide Baraka was so professional and made us feel "at home" from the time he met us at the airport. He was very accommodating during the entire safari, nothing was too much trouble and he's extremely knowledgeable. We had a private safari--he went above and beyond to ensure we saw the animals. We would love to do another safari and wouldn't use any other operator other than Massai Wanderings! Thank you Donna and Baraka
In July 2013 Team Australia (five intrepid adventurers) set off on a trip to Africa - a dream for me! Our trip was managed by Donna Duggan of MAASAI WANDERINGS based in Arusha Tanzania and Clifton Sylk who is based in Brisbane, Queensland Australia. I cannot sing the praises of this company highly enough. I must have driven Donna up the wall changing dates and destinations and asking a million questions. Donna always answered my emails promptly and gave advice when needed. The same applied to Clifton who managed the Cape Town, Botswans, Cbobe and Victoria Falls section of our trip and Donna Arusha, Serengeti and Zanzibar section of the trip. We had back up from both people all the way while in Africa. We loved it all. In Botswana we stayed in Moremi Crossing Camp, we would highly recommend it. They even put on a surprise lunch for us on one of the islands overseen by a very lunch elephant! Moses our guide was outstanding and knowledgeable and very funny!!! In Tanzania we had our lovely Peter (in the photo) to take us through the Serengeti. We stayed at Tarangire (lovely lodge) Ngorongoro (take a jacket)and Nasikia Central Camp in the Serengeti. Peter was a wonderful guide and companion (we still keep in contact). If you go to the Serengeti stay in a camp for at least two nights don't stay in a lodge you need to experience the magic of hearing the animals at night around the camp. What more can I say I would love to go back and maybe I will. Thanks to Donna and Clifton we had great flights between places we visited. All on time and no problems with connections anywhere. Africa now has a place in my heart, the people we met and the beautiful animals. You will miss something very special if you don't go!!!
We experienced a fabulous safari in July last year, guided by "The world's best guide Simon from Maasai Wanderings, Simon." Simon was so enthusiastic and always put in that extra effort to make sure we didn't miss a sighting of any animal. Couldn't recommend this company highly enough !!!
We went on a short safari (5 days) in Tanzania: Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. It was an amazing experience. We saw lots of animals, very close. Beautiful scenery. The itinerary was great and the guide was extremely knowledgable which made our trip unforgettable. It should be done once in a lifetime. Massai Wanderings is a small agent with very personalised service and highly professional team. Very good accommodation and itinerary. Highly recommended
We chose Maasai Wanderings for our safari on the recommendation of a friend who had used them and were quite satisfied. So glad we did!!! From the moment Everest picked us up at the airport we felt like the company had our best interests at heart. They we flexible, knowledgeable and Everest was a great driver...we felt very safe. The accommodations were first class, side trips to villages and Olduvai Gorge were a blast!! Tons of animal sightings!!! Once they dropped us off at the airport, and our flight was cancelled (causing us to miss our connection home), Abdullie remained in constant contact, helping us with the local airline personnel to assure we made our flights home. ABOVE AND BEYOND!!! You cannot go wrong with Maasai Wanderings!!!!
