This 10 days safari starts and ends in Kampala. It involves going to Lake Mburo National Park to carry out game drives and boat rides on Lake Mburo. You will visit Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for gorilla trekking, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park for game viewing and launch cruise, head to Kibale Forest which is well known for chimpanzee tracking and later, drive north to visit Murchison Falls National Park for a Nile cruise and game drives in the park.

Day 1: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park

Have breakfast to drive off along Masaka road to Lake Mburo National park. Lake Mburo is one of the smallest Savannah parks with plenty of antelopes, hyenas, Giraffes, zebras, and many bird species along the shores of Lake Mburo. You will reach in the afternoon to have lunch and then proceed for a boat ride on Lake Mburo. This ride will reward you with view of animals like Hippos and crocodiles, as well as birds at the shores.

Day 2: En-route to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After a cup of tea or coffee, go for an early game drive (3-4 hours) to have a closer look at animals such as hyenas, Giraffes, zebras and antelopes. Return to your lodge for full breakfast and then later you will proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable national Park. It is most famous for mountain gorillas although the park is also a habitat for other animals and plenty of birds. You will reach Bwindi in the evening.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking

Go gorilla tracking, walking up steep densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. An inspiring moment! (This trek can take from half an hour to 5 hours – a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes) Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male; the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. It’s amazing to think there are only about 700 of these beautiful creatures left.

Day 4: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Have breakfast at the Lodge and depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is approximately 4 hours drive from Bwindi Forest to the park. Queen Elizabeth is host to a large variety and volume of wildlife. It boasts one o the highest bio diversity ratings of any game park in the world, from the open Savannah to Rain forest, dense swamps and beautiful crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward. Almost 100 species that include Hippos, Lions, Buffaloes, Leopard, Spotted Hyena and the elusive giant forest hog, there are over 606 species of birds found here including the martial eagle, black-rumped buttonquail, Verreaux’s eagle owl and African skimmer to name but a few. The primates include Chimps, Black and white Colobus Monkeys, Blue, Black Faced Red Colobus, and Red Tailed monkeys and Olive Baboons. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge

Day 5: Game drives and launch cruise

After breakfast, your safari guide will drive you to Kasenyi Area of the Park for a sunrise game drive. Here you will be able to see numerous elephants as well as water hog, lion, hyena, Uganda kob, waterbuck and bushbuck. In the afternoon a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippo’s huff and spray mere feet away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others. After this wonderful afternoon, a slow drive back to Lodge.

Day 6: Proceed to Kibale Forest

After break fast, depart to Kibale National Park after a morning game drive. It will take you 4 hours from Queen Elizabeth to Kibale Forest. You will arrive Fort portal town in the afternoon. Tonight you will sleep at Kyaninga Lodge/Chimps Nest/Ataco Country Resort prior to your chimpanzee tracking in the morning.

Day 7: Chimpanzee tracking and swamp walk

A relatively early morning start, to report to the ranger station in Kibale National Park at 08.00am to track habituated chimps – these delightful apes, more closely related to humans than to any other living creature, are tremendous fun to watch as they squabble and play in fruiting trees. The incredibly diverse forest is home to over 13 species of primates including red Colobus monkey, the rare L’Hoest, blue monkey, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons and also bushbabies. If you have energy in the afternoon, you will go for a guided walk in Bigodi Swamp to look for different bird species.

Day 8: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, depart for Murchison Falls National Park. The drive will take approximately 8 hours and will give you a good insight on the Ugandan way of life. Take a lunch stop over and continue through the park stopping at the top of the falls which is a fantastic sight. Here the Nile, the longest river in the world, is forced through a narrow gap in the rock (only 7 meters wide), before ferociously plunging down 43 meters.

Day 9: Game drive and Launch cruise     

Following a morning breakfast, you will be transferred to the northern part of the park for a game drive. View Elephants, Buffaloes, Bushbucks, Lions, and a variety of bird species. After lunch, proceed for a two-hour launch cruise up to the substructure of the mighty Murchison falls where sinister water escapes from the narrow gorge, an opportunity to see the amazing hippos, crocodiles, water birds along the river banks enabling a wonderful birding safari.

Day 10: Return to Kampala
