Situated on a peninsula in Lake Victoria, the former seat of Uganda’s government, Entebbe is just a short drive from the current capital and offers plenty to keep visitors amused. This charming town features tree-lined streets and serves as an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area. Tourists can look forward to spending days on beautiful beaches along the banks of Lake Victoria, stroll through the fields and forests of the magnificent Botanical Gardens, or pay a visit to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a haven for country’s orphaned chimps.

Day 2:      2 Friends Beach Hotel, Entebbe    

Day Itinerary

FULL DAY SPORT FISHING ON LAKE VICTORIA

After breakfast you will be transferred to the meeting point (UWEC Zoo) for briefing by today’s fishing guide about the activity. Thereafter board the boat & go explore the fish in the largest fresh water lake of Africa for approximately 8 hours with packed lunch & a couple of drinks with a stopover at the Equator on the lake.

Here is a chance to catch the Nile Perch (8- 80 kg in weight) by trolling with lures as the main method of fishing, on fully equipped speedboats of between 18 & 30 feet powered by twin outboard engines.

You are advised to come along with sun protection; hats, sunglasses, creams (average day time temperatures are in the mid to late 20 0C), sandals, insect repellent & a camera, a pair of binoculars, light day wear such as T shirts and shorts with a rain jacket in case of bad weather and a sweater. Return to the hotel in the evening after the long day’s adventure & stay at leisure with dinner in a serene atmosphere.

Day 3:      Pakuba Safari Lodge, Murchison Falls National Park   

Day Itinerary

MURCHISON FALLS N. PARK VIA ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY

Early breakfast & depart Kampala for Murchison Falls National Park past Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Optional Activity

  • En-route to Masindi 3 hours’ drive out of Kampala, make a stopover at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to track Rhinos before proceeding to the National Park.

Upon entrance into the park, visit the top of the falls; here you will spot a permanent rainbow right from the top as you hear the uproar of the waterfall (This is possible depending on the gate of entry).

The view is rewarding as it explains why Murchison Falls is famously known as one of the world’s strongest waterfalls. And soon after sightseeing the perfect scenery, proceed to the ferry dock, crossover to the lodge to check in & enjoy your leisure.

Murchison Falls National Park

Stretching from the shores of Lake Albert, Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest National Park. The Nile River flows through the middle of the park creating the impressive Murchison Falls which is the park’s major attraction. The landscape features dense rainforest, undulating savannah and a diversity of abundant wildlife. Visitors can enjoy prime game-viewing along the Buligi Circuit. The forests are home to numerous primates, including Chimpanzees, and near the river, buffalo, elephants and Rothschild-Giraffes can be seen. Other commonly spotted wildlife include: lions, antelope, waterbucks, hippos and crocodiles.

Overnight: Pakuba Safari Lodge    

Pakuba Safari Lodge is located in North West of Uganda on the Eastern Bank of the Albert Nile. The tastefully furnished rooms offer comfort, style and serenity. Here you can enjoy a variety of excursions and activities; from exhilarating Safari drives to boat trips along the River Nile, ending at the foot of Murchison Falls. For the more adventurous, one can trek up to the top of the falls and marvel at the views through the mist.

 

Alternate: Paraa Safari Lodge        

Established in 1954, Paraa Safari Lodge is in Murchison Falls National Park. The lodge is located in the north west of Uganda overlooking one of nature's best kept secrets, the River Nile, on its journey from its source at Lake Victoria to join Lake Albert – here it is suddenly channelled into a gorge only six meters wide, and cascades 43 meters below. The earth literally trembles at Murchison Falls - one of the world's most powerful flows of natural water.

Paraa Safari Lodge offers a unique blend of comfort, relaxation and adventure. Each of the rooms is a haven of style and serenity, complete with balcony and private bathroom.

The safari décor of the lodge still reflects the bygone era of early explorers, enshrined with a modern touch. The luxurious pool overlooks the winding River Nile below, which was the setting for the classic Hollywood movie "The African Queen" (starring Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart). Enjoy a variety of excursions and activities; from exhilarating Safari drives to boat trips along the River Nile, ending at the foot of Murchison Falls. For the more adventurous, one can trek up to the top of the falls and marvel at the views through the mist. A variety of ecosystems and an impressive 451 species of birds awaits.

Day 4: Pakuba Safari Lodge, Murchison Falls National Park        

Day Itinerary

FULL DAY SPORT FISHING ON RIVER NILE

After breakfast meet your fishing guide (advisable to be accompanied) & go fishing in the jungle waters of the great River Nile across various wildlife & unique birds.

Fishing in Murchison Falls National Park is so exciting & involves catching fish by casting lures (best method for catching larger fish like the Nile perch & cat fish), to include live bait & termites for smaller fish like the Tiger fish.

Enjoy a boat ride along the Nile past crocodiles, hippos & other wildlife to Victoria Nile or the bottom of the falls (best spots for fishing) but you are advised to take caution of the Hippos & Nile crocodiles especially at the banks. Your activity will be spiced up with great sceneries the landscape and also wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, elephants, waterbucks as well as beautiful birds. 

Advised to carry enough sun protection equipment (temps rise over 40°C), wear long socks, trousers & insect repellents, also carry your extra fishing equipment in addition to the available & note that it is a “catch & release activity” with methods like casting lures, spinning & live bait, to be able to catch the Nile perch, Catfish, Tiger fish among others.

Returning to the lodge will be in the evening where you will refresh after this long day of activity.

Day 5:      Primate Lodge Kibale, Kibale Forest National Park      

Day Itinerary

DAWN GAME DRIVE & TRIP TO KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

Journey Time: 6 - 7 Hrs

Early breakfast & go for a game drive through the delta circuit, reputably known for high concentrations of wildlife, rewarding you with stunning views of the savannah & other plant vegetation of acacia & borassus palm trees propagated by elephants from Congo. Expect a wide variety of wildlife including;

Lions, hippos, waterbucks, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hyenas, oribi, Uganda Kob, baboons & patas monkeys and many more. Stopover at the Nile Delta to view Hippos cooling off in the water, with a photo opportunity around the bank.

After the game drive depart for Kibale National Park with a lunch stopover in Hoima. Upon arrival head straight to the lodge & enjoy the rest of today at leisure. 

Kibale Forest National Park

Located in southern Uganda, Kibale Forest National Park is said to be home to the highest density of primates in Africa. Although the highlight of the park is the habituated chimpanzees, the treetops are alive with all manner of monkey including: red-tailed monkey, L’Hoest's monkey, grey-cheeked Mangabey, red colobus and black and white colobus monkeys are all spotted here. When you’re not searching for monkeys there are over 300 bird species and an incredible 250 species of butterfly to keep you busy. Visitors can look forward to chimpanzee tracking, birding tours and guided nature walks.

Overnight: Primate Lodge Kibale

Primate Lodge in Kibale is an exclusive eco-lodge situated in the heart of Kibale Forest National Park. It is surrounded by a lush tropical forest that is home to 13 different species of primates, including the chimpanzees. Privately secluded in the rainforest, this safari lodge offers you a truly authentic jungle experience and is the perfect gateway for tracking the primates in Uganda. Whether you wish a high level of luxury and comfort, rather stay in a midrange cottage or want to bring your own tent, Primate Lodge Kibale is the ideal place for you. Primate Lodge Kibale was awarded with the Chimp Award 2008 for Investment in Eco-Tourism by Uganda Wildlife Authority.

Alternate: Papaya Lake Lodge       

Papaya Lake Lodge is situated about 350 km away from Uganda’s capital, Kampala, in one of the country’s most scenic regions. The Great Crater Lakes area boasts over 20 extinct volcanic craters, forming a necklace of lakes, each unique in shape, size and colour, and each boasting its own distinct ecosystem.

Papaya Lake Lodge offers nine spacious and bright cottages. They are all situated on the extinct volcano crater’s slope and have breath-taking views of the Lyantonde Lake. Each of the cottages offers complete privacy, hidden from view by a green wall of sympathetic treetops. Eight of the cottages feature two beds (one king-size and one single), local stone-decorated bathrooms with shower units and verandas equipped with deckchairs. The ninth cottage is a two-floor villa boasting three bedrooms, a fireplace-lit living room, a spacious bathroom and a large terrace. Facilities include a restaurant, bar and swimming pool.

Day 6: Primate Lodge Kibale, Kibale Forest National Park  

Day Itinerary

CHIMP TRACKING & OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

At 795 sq.km Kibale National Park is home to over 351 tree species some over 200 years old, famous for 13 primate species including Chimpanzees, 70 mammals & over 375 bird species. In the morning, start of the day with breakfast and get ready for the day’s exciting activities.

Go Chimp tracking combined with an all green forest walk & see various bird species (great blue turaco), & more primates like the black & white colobus monkey, you will also view more animals to include bushbucks & mongoose. Return to the lodge for refreshment & stay at leisure with lunch here.

In the afternoon, visit to Bigodi Community (optional) & interact freely with the locals. Then proceed to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a nice spot for birds; to include; African hobby, great blue turaco, Black kite, Swamp flycatcher, Scarlet-chested bird, Grey-crowned crane, Herons, Weaver birds & many more. Later on in the evening, return to the lodge & spend the evening at leisure.

Day 7:      Fairway Hotel & Spa, Kampala      

Day Itinerary

DEPART KIBALE NATIONAL PARK FOR KAMPALA CITY

Journey Time: 5 - 6 Hrs

Enjoy a leisurely morning with breakfast at the lodge & later depart Kibale National Park for Kampala City with an optional lunch stopover in between. Arrive in Kampala & proceed to the hotel where you will spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Kampala

Bordering the magnificent Lake Victoria, Uganda’s capital city - Kampala - sprawl out over a series of undulating hills and despite the development, this ‘Garden City’ is known for its tree-lined avenues. This bustling city serves as the commercial hub of the country boasting a blend of African markets, modern skyscrapers, international hotels, bars, and casinos. It provides an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area. Visitors can look forward to learning about the country’s rich and colourful history at the Uganda Museum; enjoying a number of activities on Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake; and visiting the Namugongo Martyrs Shrines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the nearby Mburo National Park to catch a glimpse of local wildlife including: hippo, zebra, gazelles, crocodiles, warthog, and variety of birdlife.

Overnight: Fairway Hotel & Spa

Accommodation options include Standard, Standard Triple and Executive rooms, each fitted with an LCD TV, Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, a coffee-maker, and a kettle. Hotel facilities include two restaurants, a sports club and bar, a fitness centre and a swimming pool. Guests can explore a variety of must-visit venues namely the Kampala Golf Course, the National Theatre, and the National Museum.

Dining options at the resort include a fine-dining restaurant on the lobby level of the hotel, an alfresco restaurant with fabulous garden and lake views, a buffet-style multi-cuisine restaurant, and a laid-back grill by the lakeside. KAMPALA CITY TOUR, TRANSFER & DEPARTURE

On this final day of your safari, enjoy a brief tour of Kampala city with visits to; the highlights of the city such as the Buganda palace, Uganda museum, Nakasero market, all the historical monuments, the largest craft village and temples. You will later be transferred to Entebbe International Airport to check in for your next home departure flight.
