Extending across 400 000 square kilometres of the country, the Karoo is South Africa’s biggest ecosystem and its arid scrublands shelter a surprisingly rich diversity of plant, bird and animal life. Highlights of the area are the fossil trail in the Karoo National Park and the annual Olive Festival in the small town of Prince Albert.

Day 1 

Day 1-Overnight: Kagga Kamma Lodge

Located in an untouched wilderness area south of the magnificent Cederberg mountains, Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve has a rich cultural heritage with hundreds of ancient Bushman rock paintings. Guests can appreciate the ancient Bushman living sites first hand and get an in-depth interpretation of the rock paintings from expert guides. Other activities include nature drives, guided quad bike safaris, a range of spa treatments, stargazing with a powerful telescope, and sundowners at the Ceres-Karoo escarpment. Accommodation at the luxurious Bushmen Lodge are nestled between unbelievable sandstone formations and resembles bushman “caves” and rondavels, all with en-suite bathrooms

Day 2/3-Overnight: Orange River Lodge

Orange River Lodge is located on the banks of the Orange River, which forms the natural border between South Africa and Namibia. The lodge is situated in the border town of Noordoewer, approximately 1 km from the Namibian border post. Lodge accommodations offer 4 double self catering rooms, 2 double rooms and 6 family rooms. All rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning, TV, as well as tea and coffee making facilities. The onsite thatched lapa restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lodge’s bar offers a typical Namibian atmosphere. Activities offered include fishing, canoeing and for visitors with an interest in the history of Namibia, there are a number of interesting sites to visit.

Day 4-Overnight: Canyon Lodge, Gondwana Collection Namibia View iBrochure

Canyon Lodge in Gondwana Canyon Park is just 20 km away from the Fish River Canyon. 25 natural stone chalets with air conditioning, en suite bathroom and thatched roofs, nestle between massive granite boulders and convey a sense of living in the lap of nature. Enjoy delicious meals at the restaurant and be transported to the pioneering days of farming by the carefully arranged décor. Read a book at leisure on the terrace shaded by trees or relax at the swimming pool with vistas beyond the Fish River Canyon.

Day 5-Overnight: Namib Naukluft Lodge

The Namib Desert – unique, with a variety of desert landscapes, gives Namibia its essential character. The Namib Naukluft Park is the largest Nature Reserve in Namibia and many private nature reserves are nestled at its borders to form a unity for wildlife and people alike. Namib Naukluft Lodge & Soft Adventure Camp is located on a unique 25,000 ha Private Nature Reserve which stretches from the Namib Desert to the Naukluft Mountains, bordering to the Namib Naukluft Park on both sides, East and West. This unique and peaceful place has been carefully developed by its nature loving owners Friedolf and Barbara Sturm and offers a great desert experience for the relaxed holidaymaker and the enthusiastic desert explorer.

Day 6-Overnight: Sossusvlei Lodge View iBrochure

Situated at the Entrance Gate to the Namib Naukluft Park, Sossusvlei Lodge offers direct access to the towering red sand dunes, the famous pan of Sossusvlei, the scorched black trees of Dead Vlei and the remarkable depths of the Sesriem Canyon.

The 45 individual luxurious accommodation units at Sossusvlei Lodge are carefully laid out to perfectly blend in with the magnificent surrounding natural environment. Each fully air-conditioned unit has a patio, en-suite bathroom with shower and a spacious bedroom under canvas with adobe-style plaster walls to give the visitor a distinctive sense of being close to nature.

Day 7-Overnight: Orange House

ORANGE House is a family-run, private Guesthouse located 1.5 km north of the famous Swakopmund “Mole” and only a 1 minute walk away from the beach.
