At 4,000 feet shorter than Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru stands tall and impressive. It offers a challenging hike, making it a great way to prepare for Kilimanjaro, or simply a beautiful trek on its own. The climb on the Momela Route, which is the only path to the summit, takes 3 or 4 days. No technical equipment is needed, but you’ll need to be ready for the altitude. Momela Gate To Miriakamba Hut

You’ll be picked up from your Arusha hotel and driven to the Momella Gate of Arusha National Park for your pre-climb preparations. Your hike begins across the park’s open grasslands, accompanied by an armed ranger. As you explore, you’ll have the chance to spot elephants, giraffes, buffalo, monkeys, and more. In the afternoon, you’ll start your climb into the rainforest, where you’ll spend the night in the cozy Miriakamba huts.

Today, you’ll move from the lush rainforest to the open heath zone, where giant clumps of heather and moorland shrubs create a rugged, scenic landscape.
