ARRIVAL & TRANSFER TO THE HOTEL IN KAMPALA

Journey time: 45mins – 1 Hr

Our safari driver/guide will receive you from Entebbe International Airport for your transfer to a selected hotel in Kampala. Depending on the time of your arrival, you may be able to explore Kampala and the surroundings, as you relax after a long flight to Uganda.

Kampala

Bordering the magnificent Lake Victoria, Uganda’s capital city - Kampala - sprawl out over a series of undulating hills and despite the development, this ‘Garden City’ is known for its tree-lined avenues. This bustling city serves as the commercial hub of the country boasting a blend of African markets, modern skyscrapers, international hotels, bars, and casinos. It provides an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area. Visitors can look forward to learning about the country’s rich and colourful history at the Uganda Museum; enjoying a number of activities on Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake; and visiting the Namugongo Martyrs Shrines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the nearby Mburo National Park to catch a glimpse of local wildlife including: hippo, zebra, gazelles, crocodiles, warthog, and variety of birdlife.

Day 2:      Kara-Tunga Karamoja Safari Camp, Moroto  

Day Itinerary

DEPART KAMPALA FOR KARAMOJA LAND

Journey time: 8 - 9 Hrs via Jinja

After breakfast at the hotel, your journey to Karamoja (Moroto) commences immediately via Jinja ‘’the adventure capital of Uganda’’ through the largest tropical rain forest ‘’Mabira’’, crossing over the world’s longest Nile River. Arrival at your lodge is foreseen in the evening with the rest of the day at leisure.

Moroto

Located in Moroto District, the town of Moroto is set in the Northern Region of Uganda. Resting at the foot of the 3,083 metre-high Mount Moroto, the town is known for its cultural tourism, natural surrounding scenery, and abundant wildlife. Visitors can explore Mount Moroto and the surrounding forest reserves of Pian-Upe, Bokora and Matheniko which protect a variety of habitats from dry montane forest to dry savanna inhabited by an array of species including 220 bird species, as well as a collection of monkey and wild cat species and many more. Visitors can explore the network of scenic trails traversing the area, learn about the way of life of the nomadic Karamajong people, and browse a variety of traditional crafts and souvenirs. Other commonly spotted species in the area include: hyenas, buffalos, dik-dik, and the Greater and Lesser Kudus.

 

Overnight: Kara-Tunga Karamoja Safari Camp         

Kara-Tunga Karamoja Safari Camp is a tented accommodation located in Moroto. Boasting a range of tents and rooms, the camp is in the beating heart of the Karamoja region and within driving distance of Kidepo Valley National Park and Sipi Falls. Accommodation blends local materials with a modern touch, offering a unique experience of comfort and hospitality. All tents are en-suite, have a private veranda, solar-heated showers, flushing toilet, and washing basin. Rooms are comfortable and either has double, queen or king size beds.

Day 3:      Kara-Tunga Karamoja Safari Camp, Moroto  

Day Itinerary

EXPLORE MOROTO / KARAMOJONG TRIBE & CULTURE

After breakfast, take a scenic nature walk through the valley of Mount Moroto, the highest mountain of Karamoja. During this, you will visit a traditional village of the ‘’So Tepeth’’ natives, with a chance of spending a night in the Karamojong Traditional ‘’Kraal’’ (optional). The Karamojong are related to the Masai of Kenya and live a similar lifestyle, but the difference is that Karamojong is completely unknown giving you an exclusive visit. You will also visit one of the most impressive Kraal or Manyatta of this community.

 A NIGHT IN A ‘’MANYATTA’’, here you can choose to sleep in one of the non-permanent Kraals and spend an evening with a specific family. Part of this evening is a goat roast ceremony where they are likely to sing and dance all night (Optional).

Day 4:      Kidepo Savannah Lodge, Kidepo Valley National Park

Day Itinerary

TRIP TO KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Journey time: 4 - 5 Hrs

Breakfast on a leisurely morning & travel to the most beautiful safari park as you enjoy the beautiful scenery; but if well planned, and this day is scheduled Wednesday, you will have an opportunity of experiencing an authentic Karamojong cattle market, where herders buy and sell their goats, cows and chicken. It is a very interesting experience which you cannot afford to miss.

Then after the market visit, proceed to Uganda’s most remote national park, the only ‘’True African Wilderness’’ with photogenic sceneries and vegetation.

You will spend the rest of the day enjoying the Lodge with all meals here.

Kidepo Valley National Park

One of Uganda’s most beautiful reserves, the remote Kidepo Valley National Park stretches across broad swathes of savannah studded with hills and rock clusters, and is traversed by the forest-flanked Lorupei River. It is home to roughly 80 mammal species, 28 of which are found at no other park in the country, and is particularly well known for its rich population of raptors and over 450 species of bird. Visitors can look forward to excellent wildlife sightings including greater & lesser kudu, lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant & various plains game.

 

 

Overnight: Kidepo Savannah Lodge        

On the edge of one of the most beautiful National Parks in Uganda lies Kidepo Savannah Lodge. The lodge is inspired by the Savannah surroundings, the grasslands, rocky outcrops, & by the Karamajong tribe with their manyattas & colourful blankets. The accommodation consists of luxurious self-contained safari tents & comfortable lazy camping tents. The activities for guests to enjoy include game drives, nature walks, visiting the Lamoj Mountains & Kidepo River Valley.

Alternate: Apoka Safari Lodge       

Located in the Kidepo Valley National Park, far from city life, Apoka Safari Lodge offers accommodation in 10 spacious safari tents handmade by local craftsmen. Each tent has its own private veranda offering endless views across the savannah and a sheltered terrace housing an outdoor stone bathtub. The hand-hewn beds are draped with mosquito nets and the floors are covered with hand-woven woollen carpets. Plush towels and comfy over-sized dressing gowns are provided for added comfort.

The main lodge has a comfortable sitting room, bar, and dining area and there is a sheltered viewing tower offering 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape. Other facilities include a swimming pool carved out of rock, barbeque facilities, Wi-Fi, credit card facilities, room service, laundry facilities, and a shuttle service to and from the airport. Trained, knowledgeable guides will accompany guests on nature walks and game-tracking adventures.

Day 5:      Kidepo Savannah Lodge, Kidepo Valley National Park

Day Itinerary

DAWN & DUSK WILDLIFE SAFARI IN KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will start your game drive, and expect to see various animals to include zebras, giraffes, elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hartebeests, waterbucks, bushbucks in large numbers among others. Thereafter, return to lodge and relax yourself after the long game drive, you also have an evening game drive offering you a chance to see nocturnal animals. Most importantly, you will have a chance to experience the park exclusively with minimal likelihood of encountering another vehicle.

Day 6:      Kidepo Savannah Lodge, Kidepo Valley National Park

 

Day Itinerary

EXPLORE THE TRUE AFRICAN WILDERNESS

After breakfast, you will be travelling to the Sudanese boarder to see the Ostrich population, which is exclusive to Kidepo National Park. Here you will have lunch set in the bush overlooking the park.

Optional: Take a bush walk in the company of an armed ranger besides the 4X4 Safari Vehicles. Return to your lodge later in the evening and stay at leisure with dinner prepared at the lodge.

Day Itinerary

TRAVEL BACK TO KAMPALA CITY

Journey time: 8 Hrs via Murchison Falls

Early in the morning, enjoy your breakfast and check out of your lodge. Your journey back to Kampala will be commencing immediately after. Upon arrival, spend the rest of the evening at leisure.

Day 8:      End of Itinerary     

KAMPALA CITY TOUR, TRANSFER & DEPARTURE

Journey time: 45mins – 1 Hr

On this final day of your safari, enjoy a brief tour of Kampala city (Optional) with visits to; the highlights of the city such as the Buganda palace, Uganda museum, Nakasero market, all the historical monuments, the largest craft village and temples. You will later be transferred to Entebbe International Airport to check in for your next home departure flight.
