Safari summary
Experience the adventure of a lifetime with a 6-day Mount Kilimanjaro climb via the scenic Machame Route, one of the most popular approaches to the Roof of Africa. Rising to 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and the world’s highest free-standing mountain. This trekking adventure takes you through several distinct vegetation zones, beginning in the lush rainforest and gradually progressing through moorland, alpine desert and the high-altitude summit zone. Along the way, you will experience dramatic mountain landscapes, volcanic terrain and spectacular views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks. The journey begins at Machame Gate, where you complete registration before starting your trek through the rainforest to Machame Camp. The following day takes you towards the Shira Plateau, offering beautiful views of the mountain and surrounding landscape. Day three is one of the most important acclimatization days. You will trek towards Lava Tower at approximately 4,630 metres before descending to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” approach helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude. From Barranco Camp, you will tackle the impressive Barranco Wall before continuing towards Karanga Camp. The trail then leads to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. The summit day begins around midnight. You will trek through the darkness and cold towards Stella Point before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 metres. Reaching Uhuru Peak marks the highest point in Africa and the rewarding climax of your Kilimanjaro adventure. After spending time at the summit and taking photographs, you will begin the long descent through Barafu towards Mweka Camp. Depending on your pace and conditions, the descent may continue to Mweka Gate on the same day for a 6-day itinerary. The trek is physically demanding, particularly on summit day, so good preparation and following your mountain guide’s instructions are essential. The package includes professional mountain guides, porters, camping accommodation, meals during the trek, park and camping fees, rescue fees and transfers associated with the climb. Accommodation before and after the mountain trek can also be arranged upon request. The Machame Route is a camping route, so guests should be prepared for nights in mountain tents and changing weather conditions. Temperatures can vary considerably as you move from the warm lower slopes to the cold summit zone. This 6-day adventure is ideal for travelers seeking a challenging Kilimanjaro experience while enjoying some of the mountain’s most scenic landscapes. For travelers who prefer a slower pace and additional acclimatization, a longer Kilimanjaro itinerary can be arranged.
Mount Kilimanjaro is open for climbing throughout the year, although weather conditions vary by season. The best periods generally offer drier trails and clearer mountain views.
