Safari summary
Tanzania Birding Adventure is a five-day private birdwatching journey through some of northern Tanzania’s most rewarding bird habitats. Starting in Arusha, the itinerary combines Arusha National Park, Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara National Park, creating a varied experience across forests, grasslands, woodlands, wetlands and crater ecosystems.
The journey begins with arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and a transfer to Arusha, where you can enjoy a relaxed introductory birding session around the lodge gardens, depending on your arrival time. The following day takes you into Arusha National Park, where montane forest, open grassland and the Momella Lakes provide excellent opportunities to observe forest, water and savannah birds.
From Arusha, the safari continues to Tarangire National Park, renowned for its giant baobabs, seasonal wetlands, riverine habitats and diverse birdlife. Dedicated birdwatching sessions provide opportunities to search for species such as yellow-collared lovebirds, ashy starlings, hornbills, bee-eaters, barbets, raptors and other East African savannah birds, while also enjoying the park’s elephants and other wildlife.
The fourth day focuses on the Ngorongoro Crater, where grasslands, wetlands and Lake Magadi create an exceptional setting for birdwatching. Flamingos, crowned cranes, ostriches, secretary birds, herons, egrets, ibises and other species may be encountered alongside the crater’s famous wildlife.
The final day takes you to Lake Manyara National Park, offering a different birding environment of groundwater forest, acacia woodland, open plains and lakeshore habitats. The park is particularly rewarding for waterbirds and forest species, with opportunities to observe flamingos, pelicans, storks, African jacanas, kingfishers, herons, egrets, spoonbills and many other resident and migratory species.
This private birding safari is designed for birdwatchers, photographers, nature enthusiasts and travelers who want to explore Tanzania through its exceptional avian diversity while experiencing some of northern Tanzania’s most scenic national parks.
