Tarangire National Park is famous for its impressive elephant population, ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River, an important source of water for wildlife, especially during the dry season. During your game drive, you may encounter elephants moving through the baobab-studded landscape, as well as giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, impalas and other antelope. The park is also home to predators such as lions and leopards, while its varied habitats support a wide range of birdlife. The combination of open grasslands, seasonal swamps, woodland and baobab trees makes Tarangire especially scenic.
Lake Manyara National Park offers a very different experience, with the Great Rift Valley escarpment, groundwater forests, open grasslands, acacia woodland and Lake Manyara creating a remarkable variety of habitats in a relatively compact area. Game drives can provide opportunities to see elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and several species of monkeys. The park is also an excellent destination for birdwatching, with flamingos and many other waterbirds and forest species. Lake Manyara is also known for sightings of tree-climbing lions, although they are not guaranteed.
