Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate (2,100m), located on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. After registration and briefing, you will continue by vehicle to the Lemosho Trailhead, where the trek officially starts. The first stretch of the hike takes you through the dense Montane Rainforest, home to exotic wildlife, including Colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and various bird species. The trail is relatively gentle, allowing for a gradual warm-up before reaching Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp, 2,820m), where you will settle in for your first night on the mountain.

The terrain becomes more rugged, with fewer plants and an increasing presence of boulders and volcanic rock. After reaching the high point at Lava Tower, you will descend into the Barranco Valley, a lush and picturesque landscape filled with giant Senecio plants. You will spend the night at Barranco Camp (3,976m), situated beneath the towering Barranco Wall. The descent helps with acclimatization and prepares you for the next phase of the climb.
