Itinerary

Day 1

DAY 1 On this day, you will travel to Bwindi arriving in the evening. The travel time is approximately 10 hours. Accommodation: Gorilla Conservation Camp Meal plan: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 2

DAY 2 Today after breakfast, you will go to the briefing point with your packed lunch and go for gorilla tracking. Remember to follow the guides’ advice before and while entering the forest. The tracking can last for two to eight hours depending on the location of the gorillas on that day. It is a rewarding experience when you get close to these silverbacks in their natural habitat. Tracking guidelines should be strictly followed during the gorilla tour. The guidance will be issued to you in advance before the gorilla tracking. Accommodation: Gorilla Conservation Camp Meal plan: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 3

Mgahinga

DAY 3: COMMUNITY VISIT After breakfast, Village Health and Conservation Teams (VHCTs) will show you homes in their villages that promote hygiene and sanitation, family planning, and infectious disease prevention control through education. VHCTs also promote nutrition and sustainable agriculture as well as conservation of the gorillas and their habitat including reporting homes that are regularly visited by gorillas to help reduce human and wildlife conflict. In addition, you can also visit the Batwa tribe resettled outside of the national park. Optionally, if you stay longer, Rafiki Eco Safaris can arrange another visit to Mgahinga National Park to explore the Batwa trail. The activities go a long way to support the communities. Accommodation: Gorilla Conservation Camp Meal plan: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 4

DAY 4: LAKE BUNYONYI Transfer to this place of little birds; it is such a breathtaking experience! You can go for canoeing rides and also visit the legendary Punishment Island that hosted impregnated girls outside wedlock. A legendary tale said that a passing boat would rescue one who would later become a “wife” (for free) to the rescuer. Overnight stay is at Bird Nest Lodge or Bunyonyi Safari Resort.

Day 5

Bwindi Impenetrable | Virunga

DAY 5: END OF TOUR On this day, you will travel back by road or fly back to Entebbe. Included excursions A community-based project visit In addition to your trip, you will visit a community-based project that supports communities which co-exist with the gorillas. The conservation through public health organization (founded by Dr. Gladys Kalema) has pioneered gorilla and wildlife conservation by improving the health of wildlife, ecosystems, humans, and their livestock which thus promotes a better quality of life that has reduced local communities’ dependence on fragile habitats to meet their basic needs. Gorilla conservation coffee project is another social enterprise to visit. You will have a chance to interact with the coffee growing community. You will visit the coffee plantations and also learn and participate in the harvesting, processing, and packing of the coffee. Canoeing rides on Lake Bunyonyi A visit to Punishment Island Location BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was once threatened by poaching and environmental degradation; mountain gorillas were close to extinction. The population has since grown in the last few years, thanks to the conservation efforts of all stakeholders in Bwindi and Virunga Conservation Area. In Bwindi alone, the number has risen to about 440 of the estimated 880. LAKE BUNYONYI Lake Bunyonyi is a spectacular lake nestled in the mountains of southern Uganda. It is a serene lake surrounded by beautiful hills where you can take dugout canoes out onto the lake to visit the local communities.
