Day 1 Arrival

On arrival at Entebbe, you will be welcomed by your guide for transfer to your Hotel in Kampala.  It’s on this day that you will be briefed about your whole tour. Depending on the time of arrival at Entebbe, you may go for a Kampala city tour leading you to the Bahai Temple, Kasubi  Royal Tombs, Uganda Martrys’ Shrine Namugongo, Uganda museum and Kampala city center.

Day 2 Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park and boat trip.

This morning, you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park. On your way there, expect to see beautiful sceneries and the famous long horned cattle of Ankore Kingdom. You then check in the park and have a boat trip on Lake Mburo to search for wildlife. This is the only park in western Uganda with zebras, large herds of topi and eland. We are to have an evening game drive before setting up our camping equipment to relax.

Day 3 Game drives, walking safari and transfer to Bwindi forest.

We wakeup for an early morning game drive in search for the early risers. We then drive to the restaurant for late breakfast.  It is possible to take part in a number of optional activities and these include, cycling safari, walking safari, horseback riding. All these can bring you close to nature and wildlife. We then travel to Bwindi Impenetrable forest for the once in life time experience(gorilla tracking).

Day 4. Gorilla tracking.

After a mighty breakfast prepared by your accommodation, you enter the Impenetrable forest with your packed lunch to search for the endangered mountain gorillas. Be ready to walk for 45 minutes to 6 hours depending on where you will find the gorillas that day. Having encountered them, you will be given a full hour to interact with gorillas and then return to your accommodation. You will be close to a mountain gorilla, the most endangered and muscular primate on earth. This is one of the most breath taking experiences on earth. In case you return early, you will enjoy cultural dances from the local community before checking in your lodge.

Day 5. Lake Bunyonyi.

After having breakfast at leisure, you will be led by your guide to Uganda’s deepest and most beautiful lake. (lake Bunyonyi). It is also known as THE LAKE  OF 100 ISLANDS. This is some where you will feel relaxed after the tracking activities in Bwindi. While there, you can take part in a number of optional activities including, canoeing, bird watching, hiking to the nearby falls and forests, visiting a Batwa community, swimming and so on. Note that only Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mutanda have been proved bilharzias free in Uganda and are safe to swim in.

Day 6 Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park/Ishasha

This morning, we are to have breakfast and drive to the southern sector of the park (Ishasha) which is famous for the rare tree climbing lions. These creatures tend to climb fig trees so as to cool their body temperature. This part of the park is also famous for large herds of elephants, topi,buffaloes, serval cats, civet cats, leopards, hyenas and so on.  We are to have an evening game drive before setting up our camping equipment at the UWA Camp site.

Day 7 Boat trip and game drives

This morning, we have an early game drive through Kasenyi. This is where you can spot the most antelopes such as, kobs, hartebeest, impalas, waterbucks, and so on. After having lunch, we  have a boat trip on the Kazinga channel also known as the “Center of Ecology”  The boat trip on the Kazinga channel has always been among the highlights of a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is the water stream that joins lakes George and Edward and is said to have the highest concentration of hippos in the world. It is also among Africa’s best birding spots and the boat trip takes you about 3 hours. We then set up our tents and then have dinner at the famous Tembo restaurant.

Day 8 Visit a salt Lake, a Fishing village and game walk.

Having had breakfast,we have a game walk in the Kyambura Gorge which leads us to the bats’ cave. Expect to see many bats and snakes (pythons) as they feed on them. This Gorge is also home to many primates and birds.

 We later visit the Katwe salt lake. This lake lies on a rift valley floor and has been in existence since the 16th century. It is the main source of income for people leaving in Katwe village. You will learn about how salt is extracted from salt pans and made ready for consumption. We then visit Lake Munyanyange. This is best area to spot large flocks of flamingos in Uganda. In the evening, we visit a fishing village on the shores of lake George . This will be time for fishermen to throw their nets. You will get to know about the economic activities and general life of people in this remote area. We shall also be able to know some of the fish species caught and drive back to our campsite for overnight.

Day 9 Chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge, Kalinzu Forest or Imaragambo Forest

After breakfast, we prepare ourselves for the once in a life time experience (chimpanzee tracking).You may track the chimps in the Kyambura Gorge or Imaramagambo Forest or Kalinzu Forest; the choice is yours. This activity is a bit challenging but very rewarding, so expect to walk for one to six hours depending on where the chimps will be on this day. Having encountered them, you will a full hour with them. The chimpanzees’ behavior can provide a clue to that of our early ancestors. On this day we are to camp close to any of the above forests so expect to be visited by  troops of baboons and other monkey species.

Day 10 Transfer to Fort Portal town, visit the Amabere Caves and water falls

Having had heavy breakfast, we shall travel to Fort Portal town in Toro Kingdom. On arrival we are to visit the King’s palace. Their King took over when he was a 3 year boy and is now in his mid-twenties. We then visit the Amabere Caves also known as breasts of Nyinamwiru.(Stalagmites and stalachites) You will be given both geographical and cultural explanations of these rocks. We then hike to the nearby crater lakes and water falls. On this day it is advisable to rest early in preparation for the 3 days mini hike in the Rwenzori Mountains also known as mountains of the moon.

Day 11 Ascend the Rwenzori (3 days mini hike)

The Rwenzori mini trek will start at the local village of Kazingo 14
Km west of Fort Portal town in Kabarole district. From here you will
start your ascent along the unmarked paths meeting many locals along
the way. You will see how people in the Rwenzoris live in huts with no
electricity and running water.
You will also enter the Mountain Rwenzori National park where you will
find a number of bird species and primates.

Note that this is the third highest mountain in Africa and the only place in the world where it snows at the equator.
Very early this morning, you will be transferred from your camping ground to the base of the mountain/Kazingo. At around 08:30, hike into the Rwenzoris to your first
campsite. (1500m). The first day shall take us about 6-8 hours before reaching the first camping site near Karangora Peak.

 Experience the daily life of the Bakonzo people,
help with food preparation, and enjoy a local meal. In the evening, you
will be able to share and interact with locals and take part in
traditional tribal stories including learning some of their
history. The trek is through beautiful sceneries which Rwenzori is
famous for.

DAY 12 Ascend the Rwenzori

The second phase of the trek shall be aimed at climbing Karangora Peak, an excellent hike from the National Park Boundary, at about 2050m, following the Mpanga River up a beautiful valley; you will also get to see the source of this famous Fort Portal River. (River Mpanga). Continue climbing to the top of the mountain ridge at about (2300m), passing stunning views of the Rift Valley, Lake Albert, and western Uganda.

At the summit of Karangora, the highest peak of the Northern Rwenzori Mountains, views west to Bundibugyo and the Congo, south to Kasese, east to Fort Portal, and north to the Semuliki Rift Valley.


The2nd day trek shall be through Mountain Rwenzori National
park starting from the forestry zone which is famous
for different vegetation zones, the three horned chameleone and several types of medicinal plants. You will get to know their uses to the locals. Expect to see many
primates and birds.

On the second day of the trek, you will climb through the Rwenzori Mountains’ jungles on the other side of the mountains through the Bwamba pass to Bundibugyo. At the end of the forest you shall arrive at your next camping site, along the park boundary to stay another night. The second day trek shall take about 6-8 hours.

DAY 13 Descend the Rwenzoris

On the third day of the hike, you will descend to the Rift Valley floor and onto Bundibugyo Town. (This side is opposite to your starting point of the hike.)This morning, you shall be overlooking the original Echuya Forest/The Congo basin. This is where the ancient Bantu people in East Africa (Baganda, Basoga, Bakiga, Banyakore, etc.) are said to have migrated from. Enjoy unique bird species and scenic views of the Rift Valley, Semuliki River, and the DR Congo. Your driver will already be this side for your transfer to your camping site hence end of service.
 

You will hike with 1 guide who has vast knowledge about this mountain,
4 to7 porters depending on what they will carry which includes food,
water, and your luggage.

While in the National park, you will be escorted by an armed game ranger, this is for your safety.

It is normally cold and wet in the Rwenzoris, so expect cold weather.

Day 14 Transfer to Semuliki National Park, night game drive.

This morning, we have breakfast and then travel to Semuliki National Park. You pass through the original Echuya Forest  whose largest part lies in Congo. We check in the park, have lunch and the rest is free time. At around  7:30, be prepared to go for a night game drive in search for numerous game. Semuliki National Park is home to many nocturnal which makes night game drives ideal.

At night, we have a game drive with an armed game ranger on board for our safety not forgetting that this is the best time to spot the elusive leopard, civet and serval cats and other nocturnals.We then drive back to our lodge to relax.

Day 15 visit the Sempaya hot springs and have a boat trip on Lake Albert

We wake up for a morning breakfast and do a game drive on the savannah in search for wildlife. It is a famous birding spot with 435 bird species recorded including a high proportion of forest birds and roughly 45 species that cannot be spotted anywhere in East Africa. We visit the Sempaya  hot springs where the water is hot enough to cook eggs and plantain. The experience here is magical! We then travel to our camp site for overnight as we get ready for a long drive tomorrow.

Day 16 Transfer to Hoima town

This morning, we have breakfast at leisure and then start the long journey  to Hoima town.   This is a long journey that takes us to Bunyoro Kingdom, a kingdom that was built and lost on ivory. We have a walk around this town and later visit the Karuziika Bunyoro Kingdom palace to learn about the history of the kingdom and the culture.

Day 17 Optional activities

After breakfast, you may decide to take part in any of the optional activities.

EITHER

Have a walk around this town and later visit the Karuziika Bunyoro Kingdom palace to learn about the history of the kingdom and the culture.

OR

Visit Lake Albert and have a boat trip in search for birds. Lake Albert being rich in fish, it is home to many aquatic birds including king fishers, pelicans, herons. This is also one of the few areas in Uganda where one can spot the rare shoe bill stalk.

We then return to our campsite for rest as we get ready for an another long day tomorrow.

Day 18 Full Day in Ziwa Rhino sanctuary

You will wake up for breakfast and then start your journey to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary. This is the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in the wild.  You will track rhinos on foot and see them from a safe distance with a special guide. We then have lunch, relax a bit and have an evening nature walk in the sanctuary in search for birds. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is home to over 250 bird species and these include; cattle egrets, African crowned eagle, African Broadbill, herons, kingfishers, greta blue turaco, European bee eater, yellow billed stork and so on.

Day 19 Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

We wake up for mighty breakfast and then continue with our journey to Murchison Falls National Park. On arrival to Murchison Falls National park; you are to have a boat trip on the world’s longest river (River Nile). Expect to see hundreds of hippos bathing, crocodiles, warthogs, antelopes, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, lions  and many more. This park is also home to over 350 bird species. You are advised to wear a hat and insect repellent to avoid bites of insects. You will then feed on packed lunch and hike with your guide to the top of the falls using the same route used by British Explorer Sir Samuel Baler and his wife Florence Baker. This gives you an opportunity to see how the Victoria Nile plunges over 45 meters over the Remnant rift valley wall thus creating the amazing Murchison Falls. You will also be able to see the rainbow that appears on the top of the falls all day. After here, check in your lodge for evening accommodation. You are to camp at the top of the falls so expect to sleep to sounds of hippos, roaring lions, hyenas and so on.

 Day 20 Game drives and Nature walks

We wake up early for a morning game drive; this is a good time to spot lions, hyenas and the elusive leopard. Other animals you should expect include elephants, hartebeests, impalas, kobs, gazelles, giraffes, warthogs, buffaloes and so on. In the evening, we are to have a forest walk in Budongo Forest(optional). This is home to many birds including; yellow crested wood pecker, forest flycatcher, Abyssinian ground hornbill, black throated apalis, western black headed oriole and so on. It is also home to many primates such as the black and white colobus mokey, L’Hoest monkey, red tailed monkey, Olive baboons, chimpanzee, vervet monkeys and so on.

Day 21 Transfer to Kampala

Having had breakfast, we check out of the park and travel to Kampala. This is where your 21 days’ adventure ends.

RWENZORI MINI HIKE

You will hike with 1 guide who has vast knowledge about this mountain,
4 to7 porters depending on what they will carry which includes food,
water, and your luggage.

While in the National park, you may be escorted by an armed game ranger, this is for your safety.

It is normally cold and wet in the Rwenzoris, so expect cold weather.

You are also required to have sleeping bags, waterproof bags,
waterproof jackets, water proof trousers, headlamps, hiking
shoes, head socks, personal cameras and binoculars, warm
clothes because it can rain any time in the Rwenzoris.

We shall provide the tents for your camping.
 

Trek Specific Risk Assessment

 However, there are no serious risks involved in this mini trek since
some bits of it go through local peoples settlements, then through the National Park on the paths that local people have used for than three centuries thus connecting people of Uganda and DR Congo.

 

A satellite phone will be provided to call for help in case of an
emergency
