Approaching legendary Kilimanjaro from the south-west, you take the popular Machame Route, with a total trip time of seven days, thus giving you even more acclimatization time and an even better chance of reaching the summit. Lush rainforest and Alpine moorland characterize the Machame Route, a trek which is challenging, make no mistake, despite the extra time given to acclimatize. You will have a private vehicle to take you to and from the mountain. Accommodation on the mountain on this trip will be in tented camps – a true adventure.

Machame Route

Altitude: 1,800 m → 3,000 m Distance: Approximately 11 km Hiking Time: 5–7 hours Habitat: Rainforest Meals: Lunch & Dinner After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Machame Gate. After completing registration and meeting your mountain crew, the trek begins through the beautiful montane rainforest.The trail gradually climbs through dense vegetation, where you may see a variety of birds and forest wildlife. Continue at a comfortable pace until you reach Camp.

Machame Camp – Shira Camp

Altitude: 3,000 m → 3,840 m Distance: Approximately 5 km Hiking Time: 4–6 hours Habitat: Moorland Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, After breakfast, leave the rainforest behind and continue into the heath and moorland zone.The trail becomes steeper as you climb toward the spectacular Shira Plateau. As you gain altitude, the vegetation becomes smaller and the views become increasingly impressive. Arrive at Camp in the afternoon. while your body continues to adapt to the increasing altitude.

Altitude: 3,840 m → 4,630 m → 3,960 m Distance: Approximately 10 km Hiking Time: 6–8 hours Habitat: Semi-desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Today is an important acclimatization day. After breakfast, trek across the Shira Plateau toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630 m. After spending time at this higher altitude, you will descend toward Camp.The “climb high, sleep low” approach gives your body valuable time to adapt to altitude. Continue into the beautiful Barranco Valley.

After breakfast, begin the exciting climb up the famous Barranco Wall. Although the wall looks challenging, the route is a hiking trail and does not require technical climbing. Your experienced guides will assist you as you make your way upward. From the top of the wall, enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and Kibo Peak.Continue Karanga Camp.

Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Altitude: 4,035 m → 4,640 m Distance: Approximately 4 km Hiking Time: 4–5 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner After breakfast, begin your trek toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit. The landscape becomes increasingly rocky and barren as you climb into the alpine desert. Along the way, you will enjoy views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. Arrive at Barafu Camp, have lunch, and rest during the afternoon.

Altitude: 4,640 m → 5,895 m → 3,080 m Distance: Approximately 17 km Hiking Time: 12–15 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert & Arctic All meals Summit Day – Uhuru Peak This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your Kilimanjaro adventure. You will wake around midnight and begin your summit attempt. Trek slowly through the darkness toward Stella Point on the crater rim. After reaching Stella Point, continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m.
Mweka Camp
Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Altitude: 3,080 m → 1,640 m Distance: Approximately 10 km Hiking Time: 3–4 hours Habitat: Rainforest Meals: All After breakfast, begin your final descent through the beautiful rainforest toward Mweka Gate. At the gate, We receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate if you successfully reached the summit. Your vehicle will meet you at Mweka Gate and transfer you back to Moshi or Arusha. Celebrate your achievement and enjoy a well-deserved shower and comfortable accommodation.
