ACCESSIBILITY: This journey can be tailored for those that have physical and/or neuro-diversity needs. We’ll collaborate with you to modify the itinerary as needed to turn your trip into a reality.
Experience Tanzania’s diverse landscapes on an overland safari that captures the dramatic, ever-changing scenery. With a dedicated private guide, you have the freedom to travel at your own pace—within park regulations.
A hallmark of any safari is the trip's pacing. This is even more so on overland trips. A well-structured itinerary ensures comfort while maximizing time when you are in each destination. This trip has been strategically designed to limit transit times to under two hours.
Advantages of an Overland Tanzania Safari:
-Spend time at a sighting of your favorite species without adhering to flight schedules.
-Generally, driving is more affordable for groups of four or more, as the costs of a private vehicle and guide are shared, avoiding the expensive bush flights.
-No luggage restrictions for your luggage or personal weight. Unlike small bush flights with strict safety weight limits for personal and luggage weight, driving allows you to bring more gear, including hard-shelled suitcases.
-Overland safaris are especially recommended for the avid photographer taking heavy camera equipment.
Born Free meticulously designs driving safaris to limit transit times, aiming to keep travel between destinations to under two hours whenever possible. However, regardless of how strategically itineraries are planned, safari travel inevitably involves navigating long, uneven, and sometimes dusty roads.

Day 02
Lake Manyara
After breakfast, you will meet your guide and head out on safari! Your safari vehicle is a deluxe 4x4 Land Cruiser with comfortable, refitted seats. Your first park to visit is Lake Manyara National Park. Ernest Hemingway called this “the loveliest place I have seen in Africa.” Elephant, giraffe, monkey, impala, and more than 380 species of bird can be found among the park’s five different vegetation zones. The park is also known for its tree climbing lions.
Day 03
Serengeti
Head towards the Serengeti - stopping as you wish to see views of Ngorongoro Crater and meet the Maasai at a small village. Enter the Serengeti, an amazing safari destination. In one sweep of your eyes' view, you may see zebra, giraffe, elephant, herds of wildebeest, hyena, and impala. Nothing can match a safari in this area. Travel to the Serengeti stopping enroute at a small Maasai village.
Day 04
Serengeti
Early morning game drive - this is the best time to see the wildlife in action. The golden grasslands of the Serengeti support one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in the world, including antelope, hyena, leopard, giraffe, lion, and buffalo.
Day 05
Serengeti
Today, head off to your next camp location and a full days game drive through the Serengeti. Simple picnic lunch out on the plains as you watch animals milling about around you. Day 07
Ngorongoro Crater
Back through the Ngorongoro Conservation area stopping at the Olduvai Gorge, popularly referred to as “The Cradle of Humankind.” It is the site where, in 1959, Dr. Louis Leakey discovered the skull of Zinjanthropus, or “Nutcracker Man,” believed to have lived 1.75 million years ago. Time permitting stop at a small Maasai village at an authentic off-the-beaten-path village.
Day 08
Ngorongoro Crater
Up early this morning as you will want to be down into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for prime-time game viewing. Full-day game drive with picnic lunch. The drive down the Crater wall is an adventure! Nearly 120 square miles, it contains a variety of wildlife, including lions, black rhino, wildebeest, zebra, elephant, hippo, and hyena.
Day 09
Tarangire
Today, you will venture into Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is the quintessence of Old Africa. The intriguing atmosphere at this park seems almost prehistoric, with ancient baobab trees, scrub bush, strangely horned antelopes, and tall giraffe.
