Itinerary
Day 1: Machame Gate → Machame Camp
Kilimanjaro
Your adventure begins at the Machame Gate (1,795 m), where you complete registration formalities and meet your trekking guides and porters. After a briefing, the trek starts through the lush tropical rainforest, a dense, green environment teeming with birds, monkeys, and unique flora. The trail gradually ascends, winding past streams, giant ferns, and moss-covered trees.
Machame Camp
Day 2: Machame Camp → Shira Camp
Kilimanjaro
After breakfast at Machame Camp (3,000 m), you begin your trek into the Moorland Zone, where the dense rainforest gradually gives way to open landscapes dotted with giant lobelias, heathers, and unique alpine vegetation. The trail becomes more exposed, offering increasingly impressive views of Kilimanjaro’s slopes and distant peaks.
Shira Camp
Day 3: Shira Camp → Barranco Camp
Kilimanjaro
After breakfast at Shira Camp (3,840 m), you set out across the Shira Plateau, a wide, open expanse at high altitude. The terrain is relatively flat at first, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and the distant valleys below. This section is excellent for acclimatization as your body continues adjusting to the thinner air.
Barranco Camp
Day 4: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp
Kilimanjaro
After breakfast at Barranco Camp (3,950 m), you begin the famous Barranco Wall climb on Mount Kilimanjaro. This steep but non-technical scramble takes 1–2 hours and offers stunning valley views at the top. You then descend into Karanga Valley, trekking through rocky alpine terrain for 4–5 hours. Along the way, enjoy unique flora and possible wildlife sightings. You arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035 m) for rest, warm meals, and acclimatization before the final summit push.
Karanga Camp
Day 5: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp
Kilimanjaro
After breakfast at Karanga Camp (4,035 m), you begin the trek toward Barafu Camp, the final camp before the summit. The trail ascends through the alpine desert zone, characterized by sparse vegetation, rocky terrain, and dramatic views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s glaciers and peaks. The air becomes thinner as you climb, so maintaining a steady pace is crucial for acclimatization.
Barafu Camp
Day 6: Barafu Camp → Summit → Mweka
Kilimanjaro
A midnight start from Barafu Camp (4,640 m) begins the pre-dawn climb to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The trek is steep and challenging, taking 5–7 hours, but sunrise from the summit offers breathtaking panoramic views. After celebrating at the top, you descend via Barafu and continue to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for rest. This day combines triumph, exhaustion, and unforgettable scenery in high-altitude alpine terrain.
Mweka Camp
Day 7: Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate
Kilimanjaro
After breakfast at Mweka Camp (3,100 m), you begin the final descent through the lush rainforest back to Mweka Gate. This trek typically takes 3–4 hours, covering about 10 km of gently sloping trails. The forest is alive with birds, monkeys, and vibrant greenery, a stark contrast to the alpine desert and glacier zones you crossed earlier.
