This 4 day accommodated trekking tour is perfect for those looking for a truly unique animal observation. The gorillas in Rwanda with their fellows in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the last specimen of their kind. Experience the “gentle giants” on this unforgettable journey in the mountain forest of Rwanda. In close proximity of these majestic animals, you observe how the gorillas live together in their natural habitat.

Day 1 Individual arrival (always Wednesdays) in Kigali, Rwanda

After your arrival at Kigali Airport you are picked up and taken to your hotel. You will overnight at the Hotel Chez Lando.


Day 2 Kigali, Rwanda - Parc National des Volcans, Rwanda
Distance approx. 180 km; driving time approx. 2-3h

After breakfast you do a city tour of Rwanda’s capital city, Kigali. The city as well as the entire country became the focus of the public because of Hutu’s committed genocide at the Tutsi’s. Today’s program includes a visit of the Nyamata and Ntarama Genocide Memorial as well as the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre in Gisozi. In the afternoon you are transferred to the Parc National des Volcans, the renowned national park in which the world-famous gorilla scientist and author Dian Fossey lived, worked and fought for the preservation of the gorillas from 1967 until 1985. The park is formed by a chain of dormant volcanos, the so known Virunga Volcanos. You will overnight at the hotel La Palme.

Day 3 Gorilla Trekking in the Parc National des Volcans, Rwanda

After a hearty breakfast you are picked up in the early morning and transferred to the entrance gate of the park. The park rangers brief you and you are given a short introduction about the logistics of the trekking and which rules will need to observed in order not to unnecessarily disturb the mountain gorillas. At the moment there are seven mountain gorilla groups that can be visited in the Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda. The number of participants visiting the different groups is limited to 8 people per day. The visiting hours for the different groups are restricted to one hour, starting from the time you have reached the group. The departure points are determined according to which mountain gorilla group is allocated to your group. Accompanied by park rangers you begin your trekking and search for the gorillas. Other rangers that left an hour before you transfer the exact location of the gorilla group you are in search for. Once you have reached the gorillas, you spend one hour at close range of the animals. You observe how these unique animals wander across the forest in a family clan with up to 20 members.
The group is led by the silverback who can easily reach 2 meters in height and 200kg in weight. Observe the leader of the group how he interacts with his females, children and babies, which all always gather around their chief. In close proximity you can experience the way of behaviour and communication among each other. You will notice a resemblance to the human behaviour. This will certainly be one of the most moving moments and experiences on your trip to Africa. After your return to the park entrance gate you are transferred back to your hotel. Once again you will be staying at the Hotel La Palme.

Distance approx. 180 km; driving time approx. 2-3h

After breakfast you are picked up at your hotel and taken back to Kigali and depending on your program you either spend another night here or you will get dropped off at the airport.
