Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi Tanzania

You will be met by our driver at Kilimanjaro Airport and then driven to your booked hotel in Moshi. After checking in, your guide will give you a short briefing about your booked trip and then check your equipment. You have the rest of the day at leisure. In the evening you will be invited by your guide to the welcome dinner. Overnight at hotel in Moshi.

Day 2: Londrossi to Mti Mkubwa camp

From Moshi, it's a 45-minute drive through inviting mountain villages to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. While we patiently wait for our permits to be issued, we will watch the hustle and bustle of the preparations by the mountain crews. We start our trek through a beautiful rainforest landscape and the windy paths while our guide informs us about the local flora and fauna and the natural fauna. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and quite slippery.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa to Shira Camp 1

As you will walk along the narrow path through the rainforest, we will find that the vegetation becomes increasingly arid until we finally reach the moorland overgrown with lobelia and heather. We ascend through rolling hills and reach Shira Camp 1. It is believed that the first volcanic activity began around 1 million years ago. A tasty dinner and a last look at the starry sky let the day come to an end. Overnight camp-site.

Day 4: Shira Camp 1 to Shira camp 2

Today our trek leads us to the summit of Shira Cathedral, an immense rock buttress surrounded by majestic spires and pinnacles. We continue our adventure across the sprawling Shira Plateau towards Shira-2 Campsite.

Day 5: Shira Camp 2 to Moir Hut

Leave the moorland behind and venture across the higher altitude, treated to stunning views of Arrow Glacier. Continue your ascent towards the impressive Lava Tower, standing tall at 4600 m above sea level. After lunch, continue your journey to Moir Hut Camp, a secluded oasis that offers breathtaking vistas of the Shira Plateau. This acclimatization day is crucial for your journey.

Day 6: Moir hut to Buffalo Camp

Today's adventure takes you beyond the moorland zone, venturing into the captivating alpine desert. Traverse a steep ridge connecting the Lemosho Route to the Northern Circuit Route, treating yourself to panoramic vistas of the Kilimanjaro plains to the north. Though some sections are steep, the trail presents a variety of ups and downs as you journey towards Pofu, also known as Buffalo Camp located at 4025 m above sea level, where you will spend the night.

Day 7: Buffalo Camp to Third Cave

As you make your way through the barren landscape, you'll descend into the Great Barranco Valley and ascend the steep Barranco Wall. The day's hike will conclude at Third Cave Camp, located at an elevation of around 12,467 feet (3,800 meters).

Day 8: Third cape to School Hut

The trail leads you steadily from Third Cave Camp to the remarkable Saddle region, an expanse of barren land connecting the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Traverse the high-altitude desert, immersing yourself in this otherworldly terrain. After a 4 to 6 hours climb, you will arrive at School Hut Camp, situated at an elevation of 4750 m. Take this opportunity to rest and gather your strength for the monumental challenge awaiting you on the summit day.

Day 9: Gilman's point to Uhuru Peak

Every step brings us closer to the crater rim, reaching Gillman's Point (5685 m). Take a moment to rest and relish the breathtaking spectacle of the sunrise painting the sky above Mawenzi. From here, we push forward to Uhuru Peak, which stands at a towering 5895 m above sea level, making it the highest point on the African continent. Eventually we descent to Stella Point (5756 m). Continuing our descent through Barafu Camp, our dedicated porters await us with a nourishing packed lunch.

Day 10: Millennium to Mweka Camp

Start the day early at Millennium Camp, located at an elevation of 3,820 meters. Begin the descent through the beautiful alpine forest, enjoying the lush surroundings. The trail will lead you through various ecological zones, including moorland and heath. Reach Mweka Camp, situated at an elevation of 3,100 meters, where you'll spend the night.

Day 11: Mweka gate back to Moshi

After breakfast, continue the descent from Mweka Camp. The path descends further through the enchanting rainforest, offering a different perspective of the mountain. Reach Mweka Gate, situated at an elevation of 1,640 meters. At the gate, you'll receive your summit certificates, marking your accomplishment. Bid farewell to your guides and porters and transfer back to Moshi.
