Itinerary

Day 1

DAY 1 ARRIVAL – KIGALI On arrival at Kigali airport, you will be met by your driver guide who will assist with the transfer to Kigali Serena Hotel for overnight. Overnight: Kigali Serena Hotel Meal Plan: Bed and Breakfast

Day 2

Virunga | Volcanoes

DAY 2 KIGALI EXCURSIONS – VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK This morning tour Genocide Memorial Centre. This Museum is offered to learn about the lessons learned so this tragedy never happens again.  As an outsider, it is almost impossible to understand the true scope of what really happened here in 1994.  Your visit to the center will help bring some of the tragedy to light as you learn about individual stories of losing family and friends while at the same time learning about the efforts of Rwandans to heal and carry on as one people. Following your visit here, depart for Volcanoes National Park. The roads are good and the journey to Ruhengeri will take approximately two hours.  On arrival a late lunch will be served in the main lodge, with its scenic vistas of the Virunga Volcanoes, of the Parc National des Volcans.  Afternoon at leisure to settle in and acclimatize and perhaps an afternoon guided bird walk in the surrounds of the lodge.  The lodge, situated in the foothills of the mighty Virungas, the chain of 15,000 ft volcanoes stretching through Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, affords wonderful views of the volcanoes and the surrounding countryside. Guest cottages and the main lodge building have been beautifully constructed and appointed and the lodge is the perfect base from which to explore this unique and fascinating corner of Africa. The lodge is built and operated by Governors’ Camp. The lodge is owned by a Community Trust, SACOLA, which uses rentals and community fees from the lodge to drive socio-economic and conservation initiatives in the communities adjacent to the National Park. Governors’ Camp Rwanda Ltd would like to thank the African Wildlife Foundation, Gaylord and Cathy Layton of Tayside Associates LLC and the Rwanda Development Board for the vital role they played in the development of Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge. Overnight: Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge Meal Plan: Full board

Day 3

DAY 3 GORILLA TREKKING AT VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK An early breakfast, served at the lodge, before departing by road to the Parc National des Volcans headquarters.  Here you will be allocated a guide for one of the habituated Mountain Gorilla families and given a safety briefing.  You will then be taken by vehicle to a starting point, to commence your gorilla trek in the forest.  The amount of time spent walking is dependent upon which family of Gorillas you are allocated to and where they are to be found on that day.  Once the family is sighted you will spend a maximum of one hour with the Gorilla family. After this phenomenal wildlife experience, return to your vehicle on the edge of the forest, returning to Sabyinyo Silverback lodge for lunch.  Afternoon at leisure.  Overnight: Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge Meal Plan: Full board

Day 4

DAY 4 DEPARTURE This morning after breakfast depart for Kigali. Transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
