Itinerary
Day 1
Day 1: Transfer to Hotel; Briefing by guide and General Orientation about the trip.
Day 2
Day 2: Start historical-minded exploration of Kigali with visits to landmarks from colonial, post-independence, genocide and post-genocide times i.e. Kigali Solaire, Stade regionale, Kigali Genocide memorial site, Kandt Museum, Belgian camp etc. Transfer to Bugesera in the afternoon to visit the reconciliation village, Nyamata and Ntarama genocide churches. Overnight: - Kigali.
Day 3
Akagera
Day 3: Transfer to Kirehe; visit Imigongo and practice ancient artisanry in the region, watch the waterfalls in Rusumo (Border between Tanzania and Rwanda). Head to Akagera National Park in the Afternoon. Overnight: - Akagera.
Day 4
Akagera
Day 4: Complete – Game drive in Akagera National Park and birding. Exit in the northern part of the park and go for the pastoralist heritage experience. Overnight: Akagera National Park.
Day 5
Day 5: Half – Game drive plus boat ride on lake Ihema to see crodiles, schools of hippos and over 50 species of water birds. Transfer to Kigali in the afternoon. Overnight: - Kigali.
Day 6
Day 6: Transfer to Ruhengeri: - For ethno botany tours. Afternoon; en-route to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo visit brick making sites and bee hive locations. Overnight; - Ruhengeri town.
Day 7
Day 7: Early morning - Gorilla Trekking and visit Buhanga forest in the afternoon where all the Rwanda kings were initiated or Kinigi Cultural Village. Overnight: - Ruhengeri town.
Day 8
Day 8: Banana and Sorghum beer production experiences. Transfer to Gisenyi on the shores of lake Kivu to relax in the afternoon. Swimming in lake Kivu or in a swimming pool is optional but consider the current advice of guide. Overnight: - Gisenyi.
Day 9
Day 9: Tour Gisenyi town and check possibilities to visit Goma town in Congo – DRC. Transfer by boat to Kibuye, En-route visit Amahoro island. Overnight: - Kibuye.
Day 10
Day 10: Transfer to Cyangugu – Kamembe town by boat; relax at the lakeside. Overnight: - Nyungwe/Kamembe.
Day 11
Nyungwe Forest
Day 11: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park and visit tea plantations in the afternoon. Overnight: - Nyungwe Forest guest house.
Day 12
Day 12: Visit the waterfalls or Kamiranzovu swamps; view other species of primates e.g. the black and white colobus monkeys, mountain monkeys etc. Transfer to Butare in the afternoon. Overnight: - Butare town.
Day 13
Day 13: Visit to the National Museum, introduction to Rwanda’s kingdoms, discovery of colonial architecture, enjoy traditional dancers from the museum or the national university. History-minded exploration of Nyanza – visit the King’s palace and traditional home where you will cook and share lunch with the family. En-route visit the Basilica of Kabgayi and back to Kigali. Overnight: - Kigali.
Day 14
Day 14: Souvenir shopping in local handcraft markets and transfer to the airport.
