Safari summary

This safari is all about you immersing yourself in the South East Lowveld and making the most of your time in our special part of the world.

You want adventure and active time in the bush? No problem: Track animals on foot, climb kopjes (large granite hills), go fishing, go out at night with a spot light looking for predators that prowl the night - it is all up to you.

If you prefer a more relaxing holiday we will adjust the pace accordingly. Relax by the pool, picnic near a water point and see what animals come down, enjoy a sundowner drink as the sun slips past the horizon, sit by the fire at night and enjoy a spectacular night sky and the sounds of the African bush - please yourself.

The amount of time you spend on this safari is also up to you. We suggest 5 or 6 nights at least and more if you want to leave time to visit nearby Birchenough Bridge, nearby village areas, or the Great Zimbabwe Ruins - all excursions which we will happily arrange for you.

Itinerary

Your first day in camp

What do you feel like today? Perhaps, after a long journey, you would like to lie in a bit? If so, we will have brunch ready for you when you wake up. All our food is freshly prepared using homegrown and locally produced ingredients wherever possible. If you have any dietary restrictions or favourites let us know and we will happily accommodate them wherever we can. After brunch we will leave it to you to decide what you would like to do with the rest of your day.

Chishakwe River Camp

Your second day

Feeling rested and refreshed? Great! How about an early start today? A knock on the door at sunrise to wake you up with a pot of freshly brewed coffee and a homemade rusk. Then a game drive. Who knows what you might see in the fresh morning air before the day starts to get hot. Back to Camp for breakfast and to decide what to do with the rest of the day ... it's all up to you but our guide will have some excellent suggestions.

Day 3

You have got the hang of this now and decide to get up in the dark and head to Bopwa Dam to have a breakfast cooked on an open fire while you watch the sunrise and settle in for a morning of bird watching. Perhaps you will also have some good animal sightings? After such an early start perhaps a siesta after lunch and before deciding what's next?

Day 4

By now the Lowveld bush has worked its magic and time is something you judge by the sunrise, the rising heat of the day, the sunset and the moonrise. Hopefully you have seen some amazing animals and birds and learnt a lot about the bush (everything from medicinal plant uses to the social structures in elephant herds) from our font of bushveld knowledge guide. This evening is the evening to head to Moon Rock to watch the moon rise to the East and the sun set to the West; if you want to.

Day 5

How about some fishing today? Take off across the Big Dam in our pontoon and put some lines in the water. If it is a good day for fishing perhaps there will be fish and chips for lunch. Moor at the top end of the dam and take a look at our famous Big Tree, tallest recorded Baobab and arguably the largest in Southern Africa. At your request we have booked a member of the Wild Dog research and monitoring team for dinner so you can find out more about these fascinating animals.

Day 6

Your last day already. What would you like to do? Do you have any favourite places you would like to go back to? Anything special you would like to do? Just let your guide know. Or ask him if he has any suggestions.
