Arusha/Moshi-Machame Gate.

Day 1-Machame Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Machame Camp (3,000m/9,840ft) Elevation Gain: 1,200 meters, 3,935 feet At about 8:30am,leave Moshi for Machame Gate.Your first day's destination is Machame Camp.On the first day,hike through the moss-covered trees of Kilimanjaro's cloud forest.The forest will thin at the end of the hike and vegetation will change to include heathers, tall grasses and wildflowers. If the weather is clear,view the surrounding area and your ultimate destination,Kibo Peak.

Machame Camp -Shira Camp

Day 2-Machame Camp (3,000m/9,840ft) to Shira Camp (3,840m/12,600ft) Elevation:840 meters/2,760 feet. Considered an easy day on Machame Route,today's trek include several uphill sections. As you gain altitude,notice the change in vegetation,trees diminish in size,giving way to Kilimanjaro's famous hi-altitude plants,Scenecio kilimanjari and Lobelia deckenii.After lunch,climb the Shira Plateau,made when Kibo's lava flows filled the Shira crater.Continue to Shira Camp,relax the rest of the day.

Shira Camp-Barranco Camp

Day 3-Shira Camp (3,840m/12,600ft) to Barranco Camp (3,950m/12,960ft) Total Elevatio:690 mts/2,264ft. This up and down day ends with an elevation gain of 110 mts,by early noon you'll have climbed 690mts to a height of 4,530 mts before beginning your descent to Barranco Camp. After breakfast,hike east on Shira Plateau before reaching the junction of Shira & Lemosho Routes.Continue through the barren landscape. After lunch,reach the highest point of the day before descending to Barranco.

Day 4-Barranco Camp (3,950m/12,960ft) to Barafu Camp (4,600m/15,100ft) Elevation Gain: 600 meters, 2,140 feet Leave Barranco Camp after breakfast to begin the hike to Barafu Camp.The is an hour and a half scramble up the Barranco Wall.After reaching the top,you'll make a short descent to Karanga Valley before continuing on to Barafu Camp.Though the way to Barafu is bleak,alpine desert with little vegetation,Barafu Camp offers stunning views of Kibo,Mawenzi peak and Rebmann Glacier.

Barafu Camp-Uhuru Peak.

Day 5-: Barafu Camp (4,600m/15,100ft) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,340ft) to Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,170ft) Elevation Gain: 1,295m/4,240 feet Elevation Loss: 2,795m/9,170 feet At midnight,begin the ascent to the summit,the highest point in Africa.Ascend for next 6hrs.The trail is steep till reaching StellaPoint.From Stella Point to Uhuru Peak is a gradual climb, The altitude,however,makes the hike long and tiring.Upon reaching Uhuru,take photos and descend to Mweka,stop at Barafu for breakfast.

Day 6-Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,170ft) to Mweka Gate (1,500m/4,920ft) Elevation Loss: 1,600 meters, 5,250 feet After breakfast, finish the trek with a descent to Mweka Gate. Your last hike on Kilimanjaro is a beautiful one, passing through Kilimanjaro's forest. Watch your step during the descent, as the trail can be slippery. Kilimanjaro Safari Experience vehicles will be waiting at the lower station of Mweka Gate to take you back to Moshi/Arusha and drop off at the hotel.
