Safari summary

The 8-Day Lemosho Route: The Ultimate Kilimanjaro Trek for Beginners is a spectacular adventure designed for travelers who want to experience Mount Kilimanjaro with a gradual and well-paced itinerary. Rising to 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and one of the world’s most iconic trekking destinations. The Lemosho Route is particularly appealing because of its beautiful scenery, varied landscapes, and additional time for acclimatization.

Over eight days, you will journey through Kilimanjaro’s remarkable ecological zones, beginning in the lush montane rainforest and continuing through the scenic moorlands and Shira Plateau before reaching the rugged alpine desert and high-altitude summit zone. The longer itinerary allows you to trek at a comfortable pace and spend more time adjusting to the increasing altitude, making it an excellent choice for first-time high-altitude trekkers.

Throughout the trek, you will experience some of Kilimanjaro’s most impressive landmarks, including the Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco Wall, Karanga Valley, and Barafu Camp. Our experienced mountain guides and professional support crew will accompany you throughout the journey, providing expert guidance, safety support, freshly prepared meals, and comfortable camping arrangements.

The ultimate highlight is the summit attempt to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. You will begin the final ascent during the early hours, trekking toward Stella Point before continuing along the crater rim to the highest point in Africa. Reaching Uhuru Peak and witnessing sunrise from the Roof of Africa is an unforgettable achievement and the defining moment of your Kilimanjaro adventure.

After celebrating your summit success, you will descend through the mountain’s diverse landscapes toward Mweka Gate. With its scenic trails, gradual acclimatization, manageable daily stages, and professional mountain support, this 8-day Lemosho Route trek offers beginners an exceptional opportunity to challenge themselves and experience the beauty of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Itinerary

Day 1: Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa

Kilimanjaro

Your adventure begins with a morning transfer from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. After completing park registration and entry formalities, you will continue by vehicle to the Lemosho trailhead, where your trek officially begins. The first section takes you through the lush montane rainforest, surrounded by tall trees, rich vegetation, and the sounds of mountain wildlife.

Mti Mkubwa Camp

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Ca

Kilimanjaro

After breakfast, you will continue your ascent as the dense rainforest gradually gives way to the moorland zone. The landscape becomes more open, with giant heather and high-altitude vegetation surrounding the trail. As you climb higher, you will begin to enjoy impressive views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding valleys. Your guide will maintain a slow and steady pace, allowing you to conserve energy and begin adapting to the altitude.

Shira camp

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp

Kilimanjaro

Today is a relatively gentle but important acclimatization day. After breakfast, you will trek across the spectacular Shira Plateau, one of the most scenic areas on Kilimanjaro. The trail passes through open moorland and volcanic landscapes, with magnificent views of Kibo Peak. You will walk at a comfortable pace while your body continues adjusting to the increasing altitude.

Shira 2 Camp

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower –

Kilimanjaro

After breakfast, you will begin one of the most important acclimatization days of the trek. The trail gradually climbs toward Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630 meters above sea level. As you ascend, the landscape changes into a rugged alpine desert, with volcanic rocks and dramatic views of Kilimanjaro. You will stop at Lava Tower for lunch and some rest before descending toward Barranco Camp.

Barranco Camp

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Kilimanjaro

After breakfast, you will begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Although the wall appears dramatic, the route is manageable with the assistance of your experienced guides. You will carefully navigate the rocky sections before reaching the top, where spectacular views of the surrounding landscape await. From there, the trail continues through a series of valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp.

Karanga Camp

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Kilimanjaro

After breakfast, you will leave Karanga Camp and continue toward Barafu Camp, the final high camp before the summit. The trail passes through increasingly barren alpine desert terrain as you gradually gain altitude. You will trek steadily toward Barafu Camp, located at approximately 4,670 meters.

Barafu Camp

Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – M

Kilimanjaro

Today is the highlight and most challenging part of your Kilimanjaro adventure. You will wake around midnight, have a light breakfast, and begin the summit ascent in darkness. The climb toward Stella Point is slow and steady, taking you across steep volcanic scree as you gradually gain altitude. After several hours, you will reach Stella Point at approximately 5,739 meters. From there, you continue along the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters.

Mweka Camp

Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Mo

Kilimanjaro

After breakfast, you will begin your final descent through Kilimanjaro’s beautiful rainforest. The trail becomes greener and warmer as you lose altitude, marking the final stage of your trek. After approximately 3–4 hours of walking, you will reach Mweka Gate, where you will complete the park exit procedures and receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate. Your vehicle will then meet you at the gate and transfer you back to Moshi or Arusha.
