Safari summary

This seven-day circuit is Kenya for the traveller who wants to see it all without rushing any of it. Over six nights, you'll watch elephants feed in the shadow of Kilimanjaro, drift among hippos on Lake Naivasha, stand at the edge of a flamingo-pink crater lake at Nakuru, and lose yourself in two full days of Big Five game drives in the legendary Masai Mara.

The Sopa Lodges collection — one of East Africa's most respected safari brands — provides a consistent standard of comfort, service and superb wildlife-watching positions throughout. All four lodges sit inside or immediately beside their respective parks, meaning game drives begin the moment you step into the vehicle.

This is the perfect first Kenya safari, or a beloved return for those who know exactly where they want to go. Fully private, fully customisable, and priced to be genuinely accessible across all travel seasons.

Itinerary

Nairobi – Amboseli

Amboseli

Drive south from Nairobi (approx. 4 hours) to Amboseli National Park, famous for Africa's most iconic wildlife image: large elephant herds moving freely across the plains with the snow-capped cone of Mount Kilimanjaro rising on the horizon. Amboseli's elephant population is among the best studied in the world — bulls, family groups and playful calves are seen at remarkably close range from the vehicle.

Game drives also reveal lions, cheetahs, Maasai giraffe, zebra and a rich birdlife across the park's wetland areas and open savannah. Two full days here rarely feel like enough.

Amboseli – Lake Naivasha

Drive north through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha — a freshwater gem ringed with fever trees, papyrus and over 400 species of birds. An afternoon guided boat ride takes you among floating hippo pods, pelicans, cormorants and African fish eagles. Optional: Crescent Island walking safari — a private sanctuary where you walk freely among giraffe, zebra and wildebeest with no predators present.

Naivasha – Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru National Park is compact, richly packed and utterly distinctive. The alkaline lake hosts vast colonies of lesser flamingos — the spectacle can turn the water's edge pink with hundreds of thousands of birds. White rhinos roam the woodland sanctuary in accessible numbers, and Rothschild's giraffes — one of Africa's rarest subspecies — browse the fever trees. Full afternoon game drive.

Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara

Masai Mara

Set out after an early breakfast for a full day dedicated to exploring the iconic landscapes of the Masai Mara National Reserve. Traversing the rolling savannahs, acacia woodlands, and riverine forests, you will track the reserve’s famous wildlife, including the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino—alongside cheetahs, hyenas, and vast herds of plains game. Two full days in the Masai Mara National Reserve, based at the Masai Mara Sopa Lodge inside the reserve boundaries.

Masai Mara

Morning and afternoon game drives cover Big Five territory with exceptional lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and buffalo sightings year-round. Enjoy a picnic lunch under the shade of an acacia tree surrounded by the vast African wilderness. Continue your safari toward the Mara River, home to pods of hippos and basking Nile crocodiles. The Great Migration season (July to October), witness dramatic river crossings as thousands of wildebeests and zebras navigate the predator-rich waters.
