After your long flight, you’ll be pleased to spend your first night in comfort at your hotel, the Njiro Climax Hotel in Arusha. If you have chosen to be picked-up by us from Kilimanjaro International Airport, your Nature Quest Safaris driver will be waiting to meet and welcome you and take you to your hotel in Arusha to relax after your flight. Your adventure has begun!

Arusha – Machame Gate-Machame Camp

This morning we take a leisurely breakfast at our hotel, before setting out in our vehicle at around 08.00hrs to allow for a scheduled arrival at Machame Gate (1640 meters) at 10.00hrs. You’ll start your adventure at the Machame Gate (1,800 m). The trail leads through lush rainforest, where you can enjoy the sounds of birds and the vibrant greenery. This section is about 11 km and takes approximately 5-7 hours to reach Machame Camp (2,800 m), where you'll spend the night.

Machame Camp – Shira Caves

Today’s stage is short and steep as we ascend to over 3,804 meters. Our efforts are rewarded with stunning views of Kibo at lunchtime. We start at 08:30 and expect to reach camp by 14:00. Along the way, we encounter unique lobelias and the dark obsidian rock of the Shira Plateau. From Shira Caves, we admire sights like the 'Shira Cathedral' and Klute Peak. After enjoying the views, we gather for dinner around 18:00, sharing stories of our adventures.

Shira Caves – Barranco Camp

Today’s trek starts at 3,804 meters, covering nearly 10 km (6 miles) with a gain of 146 meters by Barranco Camp at 16:00. We’ll climb to the Lava Tower at 4,630 meters before descending to aid acclimatization. We’ll walk for about 6 to 8 hours, starting with breakfast at 07:00 and departing at 08:30 across the Shira Plateau. Picnic lunch is at 13:00 near the Lava Tower. After descending to Barranco Camp, enjoy views of Kibo and the Heim Glacier before dinner at 19:00.

Barranco Camp – Barafu Camp

Today will be challenging! We’ll have breakfast at 07:00 and depart at 08:00, with lunch at Karanga around midday. We aim to reach Barafu Camp by 16:00, followed by dinner at 18:00. The trek starts with a scramble up the Barranco Wall, then we descend to the Karanga Valley. After climbing zig-zags to Karanga Camp for lunch, we continue through a rocky landscape with views of the Decken and Kersten glaciers. Finally, we reach Barafu Camp after seeing the Rebmann Glacier.

Barafu Camp – Summit – Mweka Camp

Summit day on Kilimanjaro will be the toughest! We rise at 23:00 for tea before a midnight departure. We climb from Barafu at 4,556 meters to Stella Point at 5,756 meters, navigating scree. From there, we ascend 139 meters to the summit (5,895 meters), aiming to reach it by 07:00. After photos, we return to Barafu for brunch, then leave at 13:30 to descend to Mweka Camp at 3,100 meters, arriving by 17:00 for dinner at 19:00. Today involves about 17 km (10 miles) of trekking over 11-14 hours.

Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate – Arusha

After your achievement, breakfast is at 07:00, followed by a Tipping Celebration at 08:00. We depart at 09:00 for a leisurely 9 km descent to Mweka Gate at 1,640 meters. A cooked lunch is served at midday, and you'll receive your hard-earned certificate. Your transport will be ready to take you back to your hotel in Arusha, where you can relax or celebrate!
