4-Day Fly-in Safari from Zanzibar to Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro Crater
Escape the tropical shores of Zanzibar and embark on an unforgettable 4-day journey into Tanzania’s iconic northern safari circuit. This fly-in safari takes you to three of the country’s most renowned wildlife destinations: Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater. It’s the ultimate combination of landscapes, wildlife, and world heritage—all in just four days.
Ideal for travelers short on time but eager for a high-impact safari experience, this itinerary blends convenience, comfort, and adventure. Whether you're seeking the Big Five, breathtaking scenery, or a glimpse into the Great Migration, this tour offers it all.
Day 1: Zanzibar – Arusha – Tarangire National Park
Your safari begins with a morning flight from Zanzibar to Arusha Airport, where your guide awaits to whisk you away to Tarangire National Park. Known for its striking baobab trees and large elephant populations, Tarangire is one of Tanzania’s best-kept safari secrets.
After arriving at the park, enjoy a full-day game drive through acacia woodlands and grassy savannas. During the dry season, animals flock to the Tarangire River—the park’s only permanent water source—creating incredible viewing opportunities. Spot herds of elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and predators like lions and leopards. Tarangire is also a birdwatcher's paradise with over 500 species.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in a scenic spot before continuing your exploration in the afternoon. As the sun sets, head to your lodge located near the park, where a warm meal and comfortable bed await.
Day 2: Tarangire – Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, depart for the world-famous Serengeti National Park. The drive takes you through the Great Rift Valley, past rural villages, and into the endless plains of the Serengeti. If you prefer, a short flight can also be arranged.
The Serengeti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famed for its rich wildlife and the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles traverse the plains in search of greener pastures. Regardless of the season, the Serengeti delivers exceptional game viewing.
Upon arrival, enjoy your first game drive across sweeping grasslands and rocky outcrops. Watch lions lounging in the sun, cheetahs scanning the horizon, elephants moving in herds, and perhaps leopards resting in trees. A picnic lunch is served en route or at the lodge, depending on your arrival time.
In the evening, settle into your accommodation inside near the park for a magical night under the stars.
Day 3: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Wake up early for a sunrise game drive when the Serengeti is at its most active. Early morning is prime time for spotting predators returning from a night hunt and grazers beginning their day.
After breakfast, continue exploring the Serengeti before beginning your journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, pass through scenic highlands and Maasai villages, getting a taste of local culture and traditions.
Optional stops can include a visit to Olduvai Gorge—one of the world’s most important paleoanthropological sites—before reaching your lodge perched on the crater rim. Enjoy breathtaking views into the Ngorongoro Crater as the sun sets. Relax with dinner and prepare for tomorrow’s final safari adventure.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha – Zanzibar
After an early breakfast, descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full morning of game viewing in one of the most unique safari environments on Earth. The crater floor is teeming with wildlife and offers one of the best chances to see the Big Five in a single day.
Ngorongoro is home to lions, elephants, buffalo, rare black rhinos, and abundant birdlife. Spot flamingos on the soda lakes, hippos in the wetlands, and hyenas roaming the plains. Your guide will provide insights into the region's geology, ecology, and history.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot within the crater, then begin your ascent back to the crater rim. From there, return to Arusha in time for your afternoon flight back to Zanzibar, arriving with unforgettable memories and plenty of safari stories to tell.
