Safari summary
We offer an affordable 1-day Ngamba Island Chimp Tour. This tour is suitable for groups or individuals and gives you an opportunity to see chimps feeding.
Ngamba Chimp Island:
Ngamba Island Chimp is located 23 km off Lake Victoria from Entebbe. It lies on a total land area of 100 acres, 98 of which are separated from the visitors’ areas. The sanctuary provides refuge for 40 orphaned chimpanzees.
The Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is a project which was started in 1997 by Born Free Foundation (UK), International Fund for Animal Welfare (USA), the Jane Goodall Institute (Germany and Uganda), The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre Trust (UWECT) and the Zoological Board of New South Wales (Australia).
It was officially opened to visitors in October 1999. This Ngamba Island Chimp Tour provides a unique opportunity for a close-range view of chimpanzees in this habitat since their natural environment cannot easily be restored. Chimps come closer for feeding and there is a raised walkway specially designed for easy viewing and excellent photography.
Ngamba Island Chimp Tour:
A Wanderlust Adventures Tours guide will pick you up from Kyampisi Backpackers Home after an early breakfast. You will drive to Entebbe and get a briefing at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre. You will board a boat from Entebbe to Ngamba Island. The boat cruise can take about 50 minutes with a speed boat, and about 90 minutes with a traditional boat.
You can either watch the morning or evening feeding of the Ngamba Island Chimpanzees from a raised wooden platform (depending on the time of arrival).
