Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Elevations: 1,800 m / 5,905 ft to 2,835 m / 9,301 ft Hiking time: 5-6 hours Hiking distance: 11 km After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, you will be driven to the Machame Gate located at the entrance of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. From here, the trek begins through the lush rainforest. The trail gradually ascends, and after approximately 5-6 hours of hiking you will reach Machame Camp, situated at an elevation of around 2,835 meters.

Machame Camp to Shira Campsite
Elevations: 2,835 m / 9,301 ft to 3,750 m / 12,303 ft Hiking time: 5-6 hours Hiking distance: 5 km The trail continues through the heather and moorland zones, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. The hike is a mix of ascending and descending, and after about 5-6 hours of trekking, you will reach Shira Camp, located at an elevation of approximately 3,750 meters.

Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Valley Elevations: 3,750 m / 12,303 ft to 3,900 m /12,795 ft Hiking time: 5-6 hours Hiking distance: 10 km Today's trek involves gaining altitude as you ascend towards the Lava Tower, a notable volcanic formation. This will help your body acclimatize to the increasing altitude. Afterward, the trail descends to Barranco Camp, situated at around 3,900 meters. The total hiking time is usually 5-6 hours.

As you conquer the wall, the trail eases, leading you through alpine desert landscapes. After about 3-4 hours of hiking, you will arrive at Karanga Camp where you will spend the night.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Elevations: 3,995 m / 13,107 ft to 4,673 m/ 15,331 ft Hiking time: 3-4 hours Hiking distance: 4 km Today's trek takes you to Barafu Camp, situated at around 4,673 meters. The trail is relatively short but steep, and it can take about 3-4 hours to reach the camp. Upon arrival, you will have an early dinner and rest in preparation for the final ascent to the summit.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka
Elevations: 4,673 m/ 15,331 ft to 5,895 m / 19,341 ft to 3,100 m / 10,171 ft Hiking time: 5-7 hours up / 5-6 hours down Hiking distance: 6 km up / 13 km down Shortly after midnight, you will begin the summit attempt, hiking through the darkness towards the peak of Kilimanjaro. The trail is steep and challenging, but the feeling of reaching Uhuru Peak, standing at 5,895 meters, is truly exhilarating. After enjoying the sunrise and taking photos, you will start descending back to Barafu Camp.
Mweka Camp
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Elevations: 3,100 m / 10,171 ft to 1,640 m /5,380 ft Hiking time: 4 -5 hours Hiking distance: 10 km The final day of the trek involves a descent through the lush rainforest from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. Once you reach the gate, you will receive your summit certificates and celebrate your accomplishment. From there, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi.
