Distance: approximately 7 kilometers (4.3 miles). Altitude: From 2,385 meters (7,825 feet) to 2,815 meters (9,236 feet) Terrain: Begin in a lush rainforest with a gradual ascent. Highlights: The journey kicks off at Lemosho Gate with a hike through the vibrant rainforest, giving you a taste of the adventure ahead.
Mti Mkubwa Camp
Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Distance: approximately 8 kilometers (5 miles). Altitude: From 2,815 meters (9,236 feet) to 3,505 meters (11,499 feet) Terrain: Continue through the rainforest, transitioning into heath and moorland. Highlights: The shifting landscape provides stunning panoramas of the surrounding terrain, and you'll start to feel the altitude's effects.
Shira 1 Camp
Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
