This Rongai route is one of the easiest routes in Kilimanjaro, and it has become an increasingly popular route in recent years. This route is located on the northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro, with a variety of spectacular landscapes and different plant and animal species. The typical duration for this trip is 6 days. However, you can also add an acclimatization day and make it a 7-day climb. The Rongai Route is more scenic than the Marangu Route and easier than other camping routes in climbing Kilimanjaro, and the success rate on the Rongai Route is very high.

Moshi to Rongai gate to Simba Camp
You will start hiking on a wide path winding through fields of maize and potatoes, and then enter into the Montana forest. You will then start to climb gently but consistently through an attractive forest that shelters a variety of wildlife. The forest begins to thin as you arrive at Simba Camp (2,600 m/8,530 ft), with fantastic views over the Kenyan plains.

Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp
After an early breakfast, you'll make your way to the second camp, where you'll have lunch. You leave the direct trail at this point and strike out across the moorland on a smaller path toward Mawenzi's side peak to Kikelewa Camp in a sheltered valley. At the Kikelewa Camp, you will settle in for your dinner and overnight rest.

Kikelewa camp to Mawenzi turn hut
After breakfast, you'll face a short, steep climb up grassy slopes that will reward you with spectacular all-around views and immerse you in the vast surrounding wilderness. Soon after, you leave the vegetation behind and arrive at Mawenzi Tarn Camp, which is located in a spectacular cirque directly beneath Mawenzi Peak's towering spires.

Acclimatization
This is your extra day on the mountain, and you will stay at Mawenzi Tarn for two nights. You'll hike up to Mawenzi for a fantastic acclimatization hike. Then return to camp for lunch, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Mawenzi Tarn hut to Kibo Huts camp
After an early breakfast, you will traverse the lunar desert of the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks to the Kibo Huts at the base of Kibo's crater wall. The rest of the day should be spent resting and preparing for your summit ascent.

Kibo Huts to Uhuru Peak to Horombo
After a light breakfast at midnight, prepare for your summit ascent. The goal is to reach Uhuru Peak shortly before or after sunrise by climbing before dawn. Leave for the summit at 12:00 a.m switchback up steep scree or possibly snow, and arrive at Gilman's Point on the crater rim between 4 and 6 a.m You will be facing the fabled crater and its icecaps at this point. After 2 hours of hiking along the Kibo crater rim near the famous snows, you will arrive at Kilimanjaro true summit, Uhuru Peak.

Horombo to Marangu Gate to moshi
After a long and enjoyable sleep, you will be awakened for breakfast, pack up, and start descending through the moorland to Mandara Huts. Here you will have lunch and then proceed with your triumphant retreat through lush forest to the Marangu Park gate. You will sign out here, and then a vehicle will transport you back to the hotel for the certificate presentation
