Itinerary

Marangu Gate – Kilema – Horombo

You will be picked up from the hotel at 8:30 a.m. This morning we drove through the Kilimanjaro semi-tropical foothills to Marangu gate, spent some minutes for registrations, got the permit, and then drove to Kilema gate, entered Kilimanjaro National Park, and started the ride up to Horombo Hut. Today is 100% cycling by bike.

Horombo hut

Horombo – Mawenzi -Horombo hut

After breakfast, you will begin your cycling journey through the Alpine desert, riding on small stones in some areas up to Mawenzi Hut and back to Horombo Hut. Today, 90% of riders are riding on "Alpine desert vegetation," with a 10-kilometer cycling distance.

Horombo hut

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

After breakfast, meet your guide, and we head back up to Kibo hut. Again, the first 3km would require you to push and carry your bike a lot, with the final 7km to Kibo hut offering a good biking trail. We will enjoy lunch and then aim to rest. Prepare your equipment, thermal clothing, etc. for your summit bid. To prevent freezing, it will be wise to carry your water in a thermal flask.

Kibo hut

Kibo Hut - Summit then Horombo Hut

Your guides will wake you up at 4 a.m. to begin the zigzag trek up the long screen slop. After about two hours, you should arrive at Hans Meyer's Cave, where the gradient becomes steeper. Continue your climb for another three hours to Gilman's Point, where you will pick up your bike from Porters and begin riding to Uhuru Peak, where you will spend a few minutes taking photos before riding down to Stella Point. After lunch, take a ride down to Horombo.

Horombo hut

Horombo - Kilema - Marangu gate

After breakfast, make your final riding down to Kilema gate across the alpine and the rainforest to Kilema gate, then you will be transferred to Marangu gate for check out and then to the hotel in Moshi.
