Safari summary
The 6-day Rongai route offers a unique approach to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters (19,340 feet). It is the largest free-standing mountain rise in the world, as it is the only route that approaches from the north, near the Kenyan border. Despite gaining popularity among climbers, the Rongai route maintains low traffic, making it a preferred choice for those seeking a less crowded alternative to the Marangu route or a more remote hiking experience. Additionally, it is a great option for those trekking during the rainy season.
Overall, the 6-day Rongai route showcases the beauty and tranquility of Kilimanjaro's northern side. With its remote and less frequented trails, it offers a sense of wilderness and adventure. Whether you're seeking a quieter route, a unique perspective of the mountain, or are planning your climb during the rainy season in the months of December, January, and early March, as well as June through October in 2023, 2024, 2025 and any year, the Rongai route presents a compelling option for a memorable Kilimanjaro trek.
