Ssese islands are an archipelago of 84 islands in the north eastern part of Lake Victoria. The islands are conterminous with the Kalangala district in the southern central Uganda; the largest town is called Kalangala.
The islands vary in size from less than 10000m2 to over 40km in length for the largest island “Bugala Island.” It is a home to a variety of animals including primates the most common terrestrial mammal is the vervet monkey. Bushbucks the white-and-black colobus monkeys but they are seldom observed.
