This is a 1night/ 2 days tour to Ngamba island chimpanzee sanctuary featuring a boat trip on Africa’s largest tropical fresh water lake to Ngamba Island for an exceptional opportunity to closely interact and observe the 52 residents orphaned and confiscated chimps rescued from the bush meat trade and the illegal pet.
Ngamba island chimpanzee sanctuary established in 1998 positioned about 23km from Entebbe mainland in the tropical waters of Lake Victoria. The island offers 95 acres of natural forest where the chimps play and roam daily. It was founded with an aim of educating local communities and visitors about these fascinating great chimps and the importance of conserving their fragile forest habitat besides chimps; you will see a variety of wildlife including different bird species like African paradise, Turaco, African fish-eagles, horn bills and many more.
This tour is a perfect mini break to explore these orphaned chimps that are thriving with support from human food.

Itinerary
transfer to Ngamba island,
After breakfast at around 7am at your place of stay in Kampala or Entebbe, we connect to the shores of Lake Victoria and catch up with a boat that departs at 8am to Ngamba Island. It is a beautiful and magical cruise on the world’s largest tropical fresh water lake with soothing winds. On arrival, transfer to the visitors centre where you will receive an orientation from a chimp care giver who will introduce you to the project, its history, the chimps and their plight.

After having breakfast around 8am engage in the caring of the chimps subject to satisfactory medical tests. Tram up with the sanctuary stuff and explore their day to day life of making sure that these apes survive. The care giving involves food preparations, actual feeding, medical checkups, arranging holding areas for chimps and many more other aspects. Retreat from the activity and embark on a boat ride back to the mainland where you will find the guide to transfer you back to your place
