Safari summary
A truly unrivaled adventure that offers so much more beyond that of your regular safari as you get in debt to the cultural norms of Samburu and Masai. Wildlife galore and breathtaking scenery is but one facet of this safari – this safari offers you the sights and sounds of a refreshing Africa which brings out the excitement and fascination that makes this continent come ALIVE!
We’ll touch down at a nearby airstrip where your Heritage of African Jungles Safaris driver/guide will meet you in a private 4 x 4 Jeep. Samburu is a lightly touristed park but the wildlife is plentiful – this is home to over 1000 elephants, plus all the other “Big Five” – lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo. The feeling here is unhurried and you’ll have the days to explore the vast park and perhaps visit a Samburu village, home to the indigenous people who are closely related to the Maasai.
It’s an easy drive to our special next stop – Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a private refuge that hosts all the big game but is also a sanctuary for endangered Chimpanzees and Rhinos.
You won’t find chimps anywhere else in Kenya but here at the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the large, natural enclosure is home to over 40 orphaned and injured chimps getting a second chance to live out healthy lives in this protected setting. We’ll also visit the rhino sanctuary, where some 140 black rhinos are free to roam. We can take part in activities not available in the national parks, like night game drives and bicycle safaris!
From Ol Pejeta, a scenic one-hour flight to the great Masa Mara, touching down at a convenient airstrip.
Your guide will meet you in a 4 x 4 Jeep for a quick trip into the reserve. The park’s rolling hills and golden savannahs will spread out before you as you enter the region’s most concentrated population of wildlife famous for its pride of lions and other big cats like a leopard, cheetah, and the smaller predators – jackals and hyenas.
And if you’re here during the months from July to October, you’ll also be treated to an explosive movement of wildlife called the Great Migration.

Samburu
The day is yours to go on as many game drives as you please. While on your game drives you’ll be looking for elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra, antelope, and many species. What you won’t see are great groups of other safari-goers as the park is a little off the usual safari routes. And that just leaves more park for yourself. Samburu is also known to harbor several endangered species like the Somali ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx.

Samburu – Ol Pejeta (3 Hour Drive)
Laikipia Plateau
We’ll be up early to catch this peaceful park followed by breakfast and another game drive as we exit on our way to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which takes us to the cooler areas of Mt. Kenya and Laikipia. Ol Pejeta is home to all the biggest game but also a sanctuary for rhinos and chimps. Orphaned and injured chimps are nursed back to health. We’ll also visit the black rhino enclosure, a large open space dedicated to protecting the largest population of over one hundred endangered rhinos

Full day Ol Pejeta
Laikipia Plateau
There’s an active variety of wildlife at Ol Pejeta with the big cats and other large species, but we’ll also be looking for impala, giraffe, baboon, jackal, foxes, and hyena. Not often seen in other parks, we may spot endangered African wild dogs so we’ll be tracking for them as well. Because the park is private there are several unique activities available here such as nighttime and bicycle safaris. Talk with your guide about taking part in these unusual adventures.

At 10:30 am, you’ll take off on the scenic one-hour hop to the Mara lands. Touching down near the park you’ll meet your guide who will be waiting with a 4 x 4 jeep. Jump in and we’re off to perhaps the most famous wildlife park in the world. The Park has sprawling savannahs and rolling hills, adorned with distinctive acacia trees and over 95 species of mammals.

Masai Mara
After Breakfast Spend a whole day viewing wildlife in Masai Mara Game reserve. You will have the opportunity to arrange the order of game drives depending on the location of the wildebeest herds (July-October) as well as allowing time for game drives to see other wildlife. Around Mid-August, the herds are normally scattered around the Mara Triangle Area and crossings at the Mara River are quite common.

Bid your guide goodbye and get ready for the scenic flight, viewing the great park from the air.
