Itinerary

Day 1

Arusha | Kilimanjaro

Day 1 Arusha National Park Arusha National Park is the closest national park to Arusha town – northern Tanzania’s safari capital. The park’s entrance leads to a shadowy montane forest inhabited by inquisitive blue monkeys as well as colourful turacos and trogons. It is also the only place on the northern safari circuit where the acrobatic black-and-white colobus monkeys can easily be seen. If you are lucky, the veil of clouds on the eastern horizon may clear at dusk or dawn, revealing the splendid snow-capped roof of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, only 50km away! Nonetheless, it is the magnificent views of Mount Meru that dominate the park’s horizon. Go for a walking safari with a park ranger in the morning. After lunch, you can go for a canoeing safari in Momella Lake. (Optional activity: extra fees apply.) Accommodation: Ilboru Safari Lodge Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 2

Arusha | Tarangire

Day 2 Arusha to Tarangire National Park Tarangire retains an air of undiscovered Africa, as it is less visited than other northern Tanzanian parks. It is a haven for birds. 550 bird species, the world’s largest selection found in one habitat, find their home in Tarangire. The stocking-thighed ostrich, the world’s largest bird, might greet you in its party dress of plumes! After dinner, you can go for a night game drive to spot nocturnal animals such as aardvarks, dik diks, genets, civet, serval cats, bush babies and various night birds. (Optional activity: extra fees apply.) Accommodation: Maramboi Tented Camp* Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner *If going for night game drive, we’d recommend that you upgrade to Tarangire Safari Lodge located inside the park. (Extra fees apply.)

Day 3

Lake Manyara

Day 3 Lake Manyara National Park After an early breakfast, head towards the neighbouring Lake Manyara National Park. The Great Rift Valley runs through Lake Manyara National Park, its 600-metre high escarpment forming the magnificent fortification of the park’s west. To the east is the alkaline Lake Manyara; its shallow and still waters lure flocks of flamingos to visit, bedecking the lake with ribbons of pink. They are likely to be seen from November to June when algae are abundant. Hundreds of bird species, blue monkeys, impala, elephants and giraffes reside in the park and can be seen throughout the year. You can go for a guided nature walk at Lake Manyara. (Optional activity: extra fees apply.) Or, enjoy game drive in this unique park situated on the Great Rift Valley. In the afternoon, drive to Karatu for dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Eileen’s Trees Inn Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4

Serengeti

Day 4 Karatu to Serengeti National Park The lush plains of the Serengeti have made it an ideal home to wildlife for millions of years. This ancient ecosystem continues to thrive, and wildebeests, zebras, gazelles and giraffes are often seen grazing in herds. This is one of the best places in the world to spot lions dozing in a shade, leaping after a marked prey or gnawing off a share of their hunt. Enjoy game drives in this famous national park with “plains that never end”. Accommodation: Mbalageti Lodge Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5

Serengeti

Day 5 Full Day at Western Serengeti Wildebeest Migration Season: June The rains of April and May contribute to the verdant landscape, offering rich fodder for migrating animals in southwestern Serengeti. Mating season follows rain season, and animals are often found in heat during June. Enjoy a full day of game drives in Western Serengeti, where the migration animals use as a corridor from Central and Southern Serengeti to Northern Serengeti every year between May and July on their move to Kenya. Accommodation: Mbalageti Lodge Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6

Ngorongoro Crater | Serengeti

Day 6 Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim Leave very early in the morning and drive to central Serengeti for game viewing before heading Ngorongoro Crater rim for dinner and overnight. The world-famous Ngorongoro Crater is at the eastern edge of the Serengeti in northern Tanzania. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera of the once-volcanic Ngorongoro shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth, ringed with towering walls and sheltering forests, grasslands, fresh springs and a large soda lake. Accommodation: Rhino Lodge Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7

Arusha | Kilimanjaro | Ngorongoro Crater

Day 7 Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha Descend into the Ngorongoro caldera very early in the morning to view the wildlife on the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is often called “Africa’s Eden” and the “8th Natural Wonder of the World”. A massive extinct volcano, the sheet walls drop thousands of feet to a “Noah’s Ark” of animals on the verdant floor below. Large herds of zebra, buffalo, antelope and wildebeest graze nearby while sleeping lions laze in the sun. At dawn, the endangered black rhino returns to the thick cover of the crater forests after grazing on dew-laden grass in the morning mist. Leave the crater late afternoon and drive back to Arusha for dinner and overnight. Accommodation: Zawadi House Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch Departure Day Arusha to Kilimanjaro Airport Enjoy your morning at leisure. You can go for an optional Arusha town tour to visit the Cultural Heritage gallery, curio shops, the Tanzanite Experience, before transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your departure flight.
