About Rongai Route
The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, which is also close to the Kenya border. It is also the only route which has lesser crowds. The Kilimanjaro Rongai Route has a more slope than other Kilimanjaro routes.
Rongai is one of the preferred routes compared to other routes like Machame route or Lemosho route (which have the Borranco wall) or for those looking for an alternative to other popular Kilimanjaro routes, for those who would like a more remote hike, and for those who are climbing during the rainy season as the northern circuit has lesser rainfall. The Best time to climb is the dry season.
Rongai route 6 days Vs Rongai route 7 days
Rongai is the only route which starts from the Northern circuit. It gives you an option to spot the most of wilderness. This route has more slopes compared to other Kilimanjaro routes.
You can opt between 2 climbing options; which are Rongai route 6 days and Rongai route 7 days. However, the best recommended option is 7 days Rongai route as it gives you an extra day for proper acclimatization.
6 days Rongai route is the standard climbing option and may not give you more days for acclimatization. The 6 days will give you around 80% success rate and also has a bit more crowded compared to Northern circuit route. You may not get more time to sleep in the lower elevations and also not able to spend more time on the mountains.
How hard is Rongai Route?
The Rongai route is moderately a difficult route however it is also a highly recommended route especially for the backpackers. The route will pass through the high density of wildlife as it starts from the northern side of the mountain.
The Rongai route 7 days itinerary will give you an additional day for acclimatization and also allows you to sleep more in the lower elevations and spend more time in the mountains. This helps you to stay away from the altitude sickness.
Why choose Rongai Route
Rongai is the only route which starts from the northern circuit route. It is an unspoilt route with the most visibility of wildlife. In our Rongai Route Itinerary you can spot large antelopes, elephants and Buffalo.
The gentle farmland and pine forest get less rainfall and are easier to negotiate in the wet season than the tropical forest in the south. This route has the good success rate and sidesteps unnecessary exertion with lesser altitude problems.
The Rongai is flatter than the other Kilimanjaro routes, it allows you to sleep in the low and spend more time on the mountains. The crowd is also less in Rongai route due to its remote setting and if you are a silent hiker, then this route would be best for you.
