Safari summary

Namibia is awe-inspiring from all angles, but if we had to choose one way to marvel at Namibia’s vast and varied landscapes, it would be from a small plane, high up in the skies.
For the next seven days you will swap four wheels for two wings and travel across Namibia on a series of short flights. Explore the world’s oldest desert, before you swoop over the towering dunes of Sossusvlei to the Atlantic Coast, where you briefly touch down for a beach lunch in Swakopmund. Back to the sky, you fly along the Atlantic Coastline and inland to the spectacular Hoanib Valley, home to desert adapted Giraffes, Lions and Elephants. There you leave the plane behind and travel by car through spectacular untouched landscapes and riverbeds to the award-winning Shipwreck Lodge, tucked away in the legendary Skeleton Coast. The final flight takes you across the interior of the country back to Windhoek.

Itinerary

Namib Rand Nature Reserve

Upon arrival at the Windhoek International Airport you will be met by your pilot and flown to Kwessi Dunes in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, just south of Sossusvlei. Spanning an area of 172,200 hectares and encompassing four distinct ecosystems, the Namib Rand Reserve is among the largest privately owned game parks in Southern Africa.

Kwessi Dunes Lodge

Namib Rand Nature Reserve

Founded to conserve the unique environment and wildlife species of the south-western Namib Desert, the park’s mix of dunes, mountains, rocky outcrops, sandy flats and gravel plains provides habitats for a diversity of mammals – including hyenas, jackals, foxes, antelopes and various wild cats – as well as a plethora of bird species, reptiles, insects, frogs and flora. Whether you want to embark on all the activities, or just soak up the magic of the area, this is a day to remember.

Kwessi Dunes Lodge

Kaokoveld

Hop back on the plane for a scenic flight over the famous Eduard Bohlen shipwreck, Conception Bay and Sandwich Harbour, before touching down in Swakopmund for a beach lunch. Then, it’s onward over the dramatic Skeleton Coast and inland to the beautiful Hoanib Valley Camp.

Hoanib Valley Camp

Hoanib Valley

Spend today looking for desert-adapted giraffes, game driving through the sandy terrain or visiting the local Himba communities. The area is fascinating, and you may also be lucky enough to spot desert lion and rhino. One certainty, however, is the desert-adapted giraffe. Being the icons of the area, they are also the focus of the camp's conservation partners, Giraffe Conservation Foundation.

Hoanib Valley Camp

Skeleton Coast

Get ready to enjoy a fascinating transfer drive. You will pass incredible rock formations and with some luck desert-adapted elephants digging for water, before arriving at the crashing waves and rolling dunes of the Skeleton Coast

Shipwreck Lodge

Skeleton Coast

Enjoy your time at the award-winning Shipwreck Lodge. Activities on offer include quad biking, visits to the Clay Castle and seal colony and game drives – or you may like to just put your feet up and admire the views.

Shipwreck Lodge

End of Itinerary

On the way to Möve Bay you explore the remnants of two shipwrecks and an abandoned diamond mine, as well as the remains of a Ventura Bomber that was involved in the dramatic rescue attempt of the "Dunedin Star" in 1942. In Möve Bay you hop on the plane and fly back to Windhoek.
