The Lemosho Route is the longest, most scenic, and best camping route compared to others, boasting a 95% summit success rate. Its stunning forests, breathtaking views of the mountain, fewer climbers, and pristine nature make it unique among the various routes.

Starting from the western side of the mountain, trekkers will pass through five climatic zones on their way to the summit. The descent will take place on the southern side of the mountain via the Mweka Route.

Day1-From Arusha to Lemosho gate

In the morning, after breakfast and with drinking water in hand, we will drive from Arusha to Lemosho Gate, which takes about 3-4 hours. After registration and obtaining the necessary permits, we will start our hike through the dense rainforest to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp. The trek to Mti Mkubwa will take approximately 3-4 hours. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at Mti Mkubwa Campsite, located at an altitude of 2,650 meters.

Day2- Walk to Shira one camp

In the morning, after breakfast and with a packed picnic lunch, we will hike for 3 hours through the rainforest. After exiting the rainforest, we will continue walking through the moorland zone for about 3 more hours. The total hiking time for the day will be 6 hours, during which you can enjoy stunning views of Shira and Kibo Peaks. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at Shira One Camp, located at an altitude of 3,610 meters.

Day3-Walk to shira two camp

In the morning, after breakfast, we will continue our trek to Shira Two Campsite. Today, we will walk through the heather and moorland zones, which will take about 3 hours. Upon arrival at the camp, we’ll enjoy a hot lunch. After lunch, we will take a one-hour acclimatization walk before returning to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay at an altitude of 3,850 meters.

Day4-Walk to Baranco camp

In the morning, after breakfast, we will continue our trek to Baranco Camp. Today, we will walk through the moorland and alpine desert zones, passing Lava Tower Camp at 4,600 meters for acclimatization. We’ll have a picnic lunch at Lava Tower for about 30 minutes before descending to Baranco Camp. The entire walk from Shira Two Camp to Baranco Camp will take approximately 6 hours. You will spend the night at Baranco Camp, located at an altitude of 3,900 meters.

Day5- Walk to Barafu camp

Morning after breakfast walk to Barafu camp via the wall called Baranco wall where there is a bit climbing. Climb the Baranco wall for about 1 hour and then walk more 2-3 hours to Karanga through heather and Alpine desert. Get picnic lunch at Karanga camp 3,995m. After lunch continue walking to Barafu camp 2-3 hours more. You’ll get early dinner, getting gears ready and sleep early for the midnight summit. Overnight stay at Barafu camp 4,673m

Day6-Walk for the summit.

At midnight, we’ll begin our 6-7 hour ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). After a 20-minute celebration and photos at the summit, we’ll descend to Barafu Camp in about 3 hours for breakfast and relaxation. Finally, we’ll walk down to Mweka Hut Camp, taking around 3 hours. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Mweka Campsite at 3,100 meters.

Day7-Walk to the gate

In the morning, after breakfast, we will descend to Mweka Park Gate, which will take about 3-4 hours. Upon arrival, we will meet our vehicle for a 2-hour transfer to Arusha City. You will enjoy an overnight stay at Green Mountain Hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
