Safari summary

Approaching the summit from the north, close to the Kenyan border, the Rongai route is unique in its more gradual ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro boasting the opportunity to experience some untouched wilderness. Along this trek is not unlikely for you to see some of Africa’s wildlife, for instance, elephants, antelopes, and buffalo. Due to its gradual slope, trekkers on this route are more likely to suffer from altitude sickness. We recommend the longer trek duration to ensure better chances for a successful trek to the summit.

Day Four

Kilimanjaro

Meals provided: B-L-D Waling duration: up to 5 hours Walking distance: approx. 8km (approx. elevation gains of 700m to 4,700m) Campsite: Kibo Huts On today’s trek you will pass between two of the three volcanic cones that form Mount Kilimanjaro, Mawenzi, and Kibo. As the third volcanic cone, Shira has been eroded to a Plateau that trekkers on the other routes cross you will walk between the two remaining volcanic cones on what is called the ‘saddle’ that was formed by lava.

Day Five

Kilimanjaro

The fourth day on the trek will be the day we attempt to reach the summit. Such an early start also comes with the advantage that due to low temperatures the ground surface is frozen allowing for a less strenuous climb. Reaching the summit on this day will not be an easy undertaking and requires most of your energy on the trip as you will have to pass some of the steepest section on the trek. Once you reach the summit we will descend to the camp for the night to get some well-deserved rest.

Kibo Camp

Day Six

Kilimanjaro

On the last day we will continue our descend down Mount Kilimanjaro filled with pride of having reached the highest peak on the African continent. Once we reach the starting point of our trek, Marangu Gate, we will provide transport to take you back to Moshi.
