Itinerary

Day 1

Okavango Delta

Day 1: To the Okavango Delta (Mokoro Excursions)   We will pick you up in Maun at 07h00 at a pre-arranged meeting point and head for the southern tip of the Okavango Delta–a landscape that is unique and an ever–changing web of crystal clear waterways. On arrival at the Mokoro Station you will meet with experienced mokoro polers.   Boarding your mokoro around 0800 hrs, you are silently poled along the Okavango Delta's quiet waterways to one of its many islands where you will set up camp for one (1) night. On your way expect to be rewarded with splendid sightings of a variety of bird life among the more than 400 species that occur in this watery wonderland.   You will set off on foot at this island as soon as the heat of the day relents, on your first guided safari walk within the Okavango Delta. Expect to encounter a fantastic variety of large game during these safari walks such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, etc.   Arrive back from your safari walk shortly before dark to a warm bucket shower and a hearty campfire cooked dinner.

Day 2

Moremi | Okavango Delta

Day 2: To Moremi Game Reserve   Wake up early morning for a light breakfast and set off with your guide for your last morning safari walk in the Okavango Delta. Return to camp and wrap up your mokoro excursion having immersed yourself within the spirit of African adventure. You will then be silently poled along the quiet waterways of the Okavango Delta back to the mokoro station for a pick up by your safari guide.   You will board your safari vehicle and make the journey northwards to Moremi game Reserve for a two (2) nights stay.   Contained within an area of approximately 3900 square kilometers, Moremi boasts of diverse ecosystems ranging from floodplains, waterways, lagoons, pools, pans, grasslands and riparian forests, riverine to mophane woodland, thus making Moremi one of the prime game viewing and bird watching areas of the world.   Your days will be spent searching for the wide variety of wildlife and birds that this area is famous for. At the same time you will be absorbing the sounds and beauty of the African wilderness.

Day 3

Moremi

Day 3: Moremi Exploration   Wake up this morning to a very early breakfast before heading into Moremi for your morning game drive.   In the mophane scrub, look out for large herds of African elephants while in the waterways you should look out for pods of hippopotami. On the open plains you should keep an eye on for large herds of the Cape buffalo.   You will also be looking out for the elusive African wild dogs, lions and the elusive leopard as well as the raptors such as the mighty Martial Eagle, Tawny Eagle, the majestic African Fish Eagle and that incredible aviator–the Bateleur and many others.   In the afternoon you will set off once again in your safari vehicle for more birding and game viewing. Return to camp just before sunset to have a shower and thereafter enjoy a campfire cooked dinner.   You have 2 nights at a wilderness campsite to marvel at this exceedingly diverse reserve that offers an untouched wildlife experience.

Day 4

Moremi

Day 4: To Khwai Concession   You will wake early in the morning for some breakfast and thereafter take a slow game drive through Moremi as you head northeast towards the Khwai Concession for a one (1) night stay.   The Khwai Concerssion, about 1800–square kilometres large, is situated in the northeastern Okavango next to Moremi Game Reserve. It is a wildlife–prolific and varied ecosystem dominated by a patchwork of lagoons, grasslands, permanent flood plains and large areas of Mopane woodland forests.   Khwai is undoubtedly one of the most scenic areas of the Okavango. It is a predator–rich area and as such has a marvelous selection of predators such as lion, leopard, serval and African wild cat.   Other resident species include elephant, buffalo, zebra, cheetah, wild dog, giraffe, eland, sable, hippo, hyena and various other nocturnal species.   In the afternoon you will go for your game drive and possibly watch the sunset unfold over the Khwai River.

Day 5

Day 5: To Savuti   Today, following an early breakfast, you will go for your morning game drive and follow the Khwai River’s watercourse weaving from the riverside and floodplains into the mophane veld and woodlands that make Khwai one of the most scenic areas of the Okavango.   Eventually you will leave the Khwai Concession and travel northeastwards to Savuti for a two (2) night stay.   Savuti is known for its predators, both big cats (lion, leopard and cheetah) and birds of prey–raptors, vultures and all manner of birds of prey that soar over Savuti’ landscape in search of food.   Perhaps the strangest phenomenon of all about Savuti is the 100–kilometres Savuti Channel. At times it will stop flowing and remain dry for years at a stretch. When the Savuti Channel recommences its flow, it changes the entire ecosystem, transforming the Savuti Marsh and Mababe Depression into wetlands and thus creating an oasis that provides water for thirsty wildlife herds and acts as a magnet for a profusion of water birds.

Day 6

Day 6: Exploring Savuti   You wake up early in the morning to freshen up with some hot water in the face basin. This is followed by a light breakfast of some coffee, tea, rusks, cereals, bread, etc.   After breakfast you head out for your morning game drive to explore the Savuti and its marsh. The Savuti Marsh is a vast expanse of grasslands dotted with dead acacia trees, creating an intriguing, almost ghost–like landscape. You will return to camp around mid–day for lunch and some siesta time.   Another point of interest in Savuti is the Bushman rock paintings, thought to be well over a thousand years old. These are paintings of giraffe, elephant and eland. If time permits, we will pay these rock paintings a visit.   In the afternoon you head out again for your afternoon game drive and return to camp just before sunset. Dinner will follow before you turn for the night to rest or as you hold some discussions about events of the day around the camp fire.

Day 7

Chobe | Zambezi

Day 7: To Chobe   Wake up early morning for a light breakfast and shortly thereafter you leave, in a slow game drive around Savuti, and travel northeastwards to Chobe National Park for a one (1) night stay.   Your journey to Chobe will take you through the mophane scrub of the Goha clay basin, across some sand ridge country and through the Zambezi teak woodlands of the Chobe Forest Reserve. You will arrive at your campsite in the early afternoon.   The Chobe National Park covers approximately 11900 square kilometers and encompasses floodplains, swamps and woodland.   Chobe is one of the best places to see and photograph Roan and Sable Antelopes. Puku Antelope occurs nowhere else in southern Africa, but only on the Chobe floodplains. On the other hand the massive herds of African Buffalo that inhabit Chobe are constantly flanked by the ever–hungry lions of the Chobe.   Throughout your stay morning game drives as the sun rises and afternoon game drives will be the order of the day.

Day 8

Chobe | Victoria Falls

Day 8: Departure   Wake up early this morning and enjoy breakfast prepared by your chef before heading out of Chobe National Park in the form of a game drive.   Chobe River boat cruise   The highlight today will be a boat cruise on the Chobe River. In this way we are giving ourselves a very different angle and aspect for seeing and photographing Chobe’s wildlife.   This boat cruise gives you the chance to experience the animals of Chobe from a different perspective. Therefore you might get up close and personal with hippos, crocodiles and a mind-boggling array of water birds.   Our safari ends around mid–morning in Kasane where you will be dropped off at your hotel or to Kasane Airport for your onward travel.   Note: Transfers to Victoria Falls can be arranged at an extra cost
