The 8 days Kilimanjaro climbing Lemosho route explore the unique features, challenges, and attractions that climbers can expect to encounter along the journey. This section sets the stage for the detailed exploration of each day of the climb.

The 8 days Lemosho route is the longest route and it covers the most kilometers, which is why one should allow a minimum of seven days for the climb. As one of the newer routes, Lemosho is a superb choice for your climb. It is our preferred route due to its ideal balance of low crowds, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. Most of the clients climb Kilimanjaro using Lemosho route and their feedback on this route is excellent. The climb begins at Londorossi Gate at an altitude of 2360 meters, with an approach far to the west of the mountain. It then circles around Kilimanjaro to the south, passing through the majestic rainforest where some of the region’s most unique wildlife can often be seen. The route continues up to the mountain’s third summit at Shira Ridge

The 8-day Kilimanjaro Lemosho route has a higher success rate, from 86% to 96%. This elevated success rate is attributed to the extended duration of the climb, affording participants more time for crucial acclimatization to the escalating altitudes. The deliberate, gradual ascent inherent in the 8-day itinerary plays a pivotal role in mitigating the risk of altitude-related challenges and fatigue. Consequently, climbers opting for this extended route significantly increase their chances of triumphantly reaching the summit at Uhuru Peak, the majestic pinnacle of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arusha to Londorossi Gate

Kilimanjaro

Arusha to Londorossi Gate Your primary guide will brief you at your hotel after breakfast, then you'll drive (2,250 m/7,380 ft., 2.5 hours) to the Londorossi Park Gate. Following park rules and regulations, the trail leads us into the forest in the area of Lemosho Glades (2,390 m/7,830 ft.), 11 km (45 minutes). From there, we walk over the forest trails to the Mti Mkubwa campsite, where we have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2 Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira

After breakfast, the trail begins to deteriorate as it nears the moorland region, which is characterized by enormous heather. Before the trail gently descends to the Shira One camp site, which is near the streams on the Shira Plateau, many streams must first be crossed once the Shira ridge is reached at about 3600 meters (11,810 feet). Day 3 Shira Camp to Shira Camp

Kilimanjaro

Camp Shira (1) 3,500 meters (11,485 feet) to Shira Camp Shira Camp 2, which is situated by a stream in moorland meadows, may be reached today after a rather short and straightforward journey across the plateau. This day is excellent for acclimatizing to Kilimanjaro, even though there are numerous other walks that can be done on the plateau.

Day 4 Shira Camp to Lava Tower

Kilimanjaro

Lava Tower is 3,840 meters (12,600 feet) from Shira Camp 2. After breakfast, you will hike east up a steep path above the vegetation in the direction of Kilimanjaro's looming mass. You finally arrive at the well-known landmark known as Lava Tower at 4,630 m (15,190 ft) after several hours of walking through a rocky environment. The trail passes directly beneath this large, several hundred-foot-tall relic of Kilimanjaro's earlier volcanic activity.

camp

Day 5 Barranco Camp to Karanga

Kilimanjaro

Karanga Camp is 3,900 meters (12,800 feet) from Barranco Camp. Following breakfast, we continue along a narrow ridge until we reach the beautiful Barranco Wall. It is easier than it appears to be to hike this amazing Kilimanjaro mountain. Please take note that this brief day, which comes after two long ones, is crucial for acclimatization as your summit push won't begin for a few hours.

camp

Day 6 Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Kilimanjaro

4,200 m/13,780 ft to Barafu from Karanga Camp To join the Mweka route, which will serve as your descent route, you must travel east this morning over intervening peaks and valleys. You will receive a cooked lunch in Barafu Hut, which is located after another hour of hiking up the ridge through a sparse environment and to the left toward the peak. Due to the lack of water at Barafu Cam, Karanga Valley serves as the final water stop along this route.

Day 7 Summit Day! Barafu Camp

Kilimanjaro

Around 11:30 PM, you'll wake up, and after a hot beverage and some biscuits, you'll slouch off into the night. For most climbers, the hardest section of the route is the 6-hour ascent northwestward through thick scree between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers to Stella Point on the crater rim. You should expect mist or rain in the late afternoon because this camp is in the upper forest.

Day 8 Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Kilimanjaro

It is a short, gorgeous 3-hours journey back to the park gate after a well-earned breakfast; however, please note that no tips are offered along the way until all of your stuff and the rest of the crew have arrived at the gate safely. Instead, remember to pay your staff at the gate. At the Mweka Gate, you must sign your name and enter your information in a register. You will travel 3 kilometers from Mweka Gate to Mweka Village.
