Gorilla & Chimpanzee Trek

Safari summary

We are going to Uganda to see Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees! We are limiting this trip to 8 people. Why? Most safari companies stuff the vehicles with 10 for profit. We want this to be a fun trip, so we are only putting 4-6 people in a vehicle, so that the middle seat is available for your gear. If we fill with 8 guests, we'll take 2 vehicles! We will be staying in mid-price Lodges, including the beautiful Crater Lodge on the shores of a sapphire blue lake where we can swim or canoe before or after visiting Kibale Forest to see wild chimps. We'll look for monkeys on the wetlands walk, and birds in every bush and tree. We'll see elephants and buffalo and hopefully lions in Queen Elizabeth Park and take a cruise down the Kazinga Channel. We'll finally end the trip with an hour with endangered Mountain Gorillas, which will leave you in awe at their size and gentleness.

Along the way, we'll stop at interesting places, including the Equator, orphanages, markets, and cultural stops, as well as look for wildlife. The people of Uganda are warm and friendly, and incredibly photogenic. You might see someone taking their goods to market on a camel, or a bike loaded with bananas, and there are always people selling vegetables and dried tilapia on the shores of the lakes.

And the apes? The Chimpanzees and Mountain Gorillas are wild, in their natural habitat, but have become accustomed to people. We can get quite close for intimate photos, and watch their antics. We are helping conserve these endangered animals with our tourism in many ways: tourism provides local employment, and our presence habituates primates so that they can be protected against poaching, as well as easily treated by vets when necessary. It's a win-win for all!
