Itinerary
Day 1
Day 1-2: Sossusvlei Lodge, Sossusvlei Upon Arrival into Windhoek Airport, you will collect your vehicle, as you leave the capital you will see that it is surrounded by mountains namely the Eros and Hochland mountains. You will stop at Solitaire for petrol and perhaps also afternoon tea before you continue to your first night in the Namibian Desert. We start early today to catch the soft light of the sunrise over the desert. After passing through Sesriem we continue towards Sossusvlei along distant sand dunes on both sides of the road. We will stop at the famous Dune 45. Those who feel fit may climb the dune and get a breathtaking view of the surrounding desert and dunes. After breakfast, we will take a desert walk in the cool of the morning, with a chance to see gemsboks, springboks, black-backed jackals and ostriches. As the day cools off in the afternoon we will make a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon. After Sesriem excursion, we will head back to the lodge.
Day 3
Day 3-4: Swakopmund Sands Hotel, Swakopmund Namibia is a country of contrasts. Today we will move from desert to sea. On our way, we will cross the Tropic of Capricorn and transverse the Gaub and the Kuiseb passes, driving down to the dry river bed at the bottom of the Kuiseb Canyon before climbing up the other side, watching the spectacular desert landscape unfold before us. Having arrived at the coast, we will make a stop in Walvis Bay to enjoy the view of flamingos and other birds in the lagoons and to visit the salt works before proceeding to Swakopmund. Dinner for tonight is at a local restaurant and is included in the tour. After a nice breakfast, we will go on the Living Desert Experience tour with Tommy's Tours. Here we will be taught about different desert-adapted animals all the small organisms that hide below the dunes. The rest of the day will be free with plenty of time to explore the town, alternatively, there are various optional activities that can be arranged. These include a boat-tour (with oysters and champagne!), scenic flights and micro-light flights over the desert, fishing trips (either from the beach or in a boat), quad-bike trips into the desert and over the sand dunes around Swakopmund, sand boarding, skydiving, and many other activities. Your guide will discuss all the possible optional activities with you and offer to make pre-booking in advance. (N.B. all extra activities in Swakopmund are subject to availability and are made at the client’s own risk and expense).
Day 5
Day 5: Twyfelfontein Country Lodge, Damaraland Today our tour takes us to Damaraland. We drive along the Skeleton Coast as we head to stop the Seal Colony at Cape Cross where we will encounter thousands of fur seals. We continue to the small town of Uis for supplies. Uis is an old mining town and a good place to buy semi-precious stones. We pass by the Brandberg, the highest mountain in Namibia, and arrive in Twyfelfontein in time for sunset. On the way, we will spend some time to experience the old rock engravings that may be found in the area.
Day 6
Day 6: Palmwag Lodge, Damaraland This morning we do the Twyfelfontein excursions such as visiting the rock art paintings, the organ pipes, and the burnt mountain before we cruise slowly on the gravel road as we head to Palmwag enjoying the beautiful scenery and table mountains on both sides of the road. Dinner will be served at the lodge.
Day 7
Etosha
Day 7-8: Etosha Safari Lodge, Etosha National Park This morning before we depart Palmwag you will go on a Half Day Rhino tracking excursion in the concession area. With luck on your side, you might see a lot of animals in the concession. Our next destination is the Etosha Safari Lodge located close to Anderson's gate. We can visit the park from here as it is located close to the park the lodge is on the border of Etosha. On our way to the lodge, we will stop at a Himba Village where will learn about their tradition, lifestyle, the holy fire, and their customers. We have an early start to the next day as we are going to spend the day in Etosha National Park doing game drives. Entering the park from the South we will visit various waterholes lunch will be at Okaukuejo. While we are there you can visit the waterholes at Okaukuejo sometimes animals do come for a drink during lunch hours. The whole day will be spent on game drives and we will exit the park before sunset.
Day 9
Day 9: Okonjima Lodge, Okonjima Nature Reserve We head to Okonjima game reserve today. Its home to the AfriCat Foundation Project, here we will get the chance to learn about the cats and the project in general. Okonjima Lodge, your base for the night, is the perfect spot to embark on game drives into the reserve.
Day 10
Day 10: Departure This morning we go on the AfriCat Foundation Excursion before we depart for Windhoek. Then you will drive to the Windhoek Airport and drop off your car before your flight.
