The park offers a wide range of animal species which are endemic to the area and cannot be found elsewhere in Uganda. About 500 bird species and 86 mammal species elephants, cheetahs, African buffaloes and greater kudus are some of the animals that call Kidepo home. This park was listed as one of the 10 best national parks in Africa by Cable News Network (CNN) Travel.
Kidepo Valley National Park is located in the north eastern corner of Uganda. Covering an area of 1,442 square kilometers, Kidepo is a true wilderness given its vast savannah plains and rugged mountain landscape home to all the Big Game as we have come to know them. Kidepo Valley National Park is by far the most spectacular of Uganda’s parks yet the least visited. After being declared a wildlife reserve area in 1958 by the British colonialists, the local tribe of the Ik that called the valley home were chased from the fertile valley which gives the park its name.
Today, Kidepo offers a range of animal species which is endemic to the area and is not found elsewhere in Uganda’s diverse game parks. About 500 bird species and 86 mammal species offer truth to the fact that Kidepo is a must-see destination in East Africa and worth your time.
Elephants, cheetahs, African buffalo, greater Kudus, Jackson’s Hartebeest, Oribi, Bonhor Reedbucks, Waterbucks, Kongoni, Elands are some of the animals found in Kidepo Valley National Park. It has got plenty of carnivores such as leopards, lions, spotted hyena, black-backed and side-striped jackals.
Because of its remote location and low numbers of visitors, Kidepo valley is mostly untouched and offers an exclusive look at Africa’s most precious savannah and forest animals.
