Day 1 Arrival

On arrival at Entebbe, you will be welcomed by your guide for transfer to the Hotel of your choice in Kampala. Its on this day that you will be briefed about your whole tour. Depending on the time of arrival at Entebbe, you may go for a Kampala city tour leading you to the Bahai Temple, Kasubi  Royal Tombs, Uganda Martrys’ Shrine Namugongo, Uganda museum and Kampala city center.

Day 2 Transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

You will wake up for breakfast and then start your journey to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary. This is the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in the wild.  You will track rhinos on foot and see them from a safe distance with a special guide. We then have lunch, relax a bit and have an evening nature walk in the sanctuary in search for birds. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is home to over 250 bird species and these include; cattle egrets, African crowned eagle, African Broad bill, herons, kingfishers, great blue turraco, European bee eater, yellow billed stork and so on.

Day 3 Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

We wake up for mighty breakfast and then continue with our journey to Murchison Falls National Park. On arrival to Murchison Falls National park; you are to have a boat trip on the world’s longest river (River Nile). Expect to see hundreds of hippos bathing, crocodiles, warthogs, antelopes, giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, lions  and many more. This park is also home to over 350 bird species. You are advised to wear a hat and insect repellent to avoid bites of insects. You will then feed on packed lunch and hike with your guide to the top of the falls using the same route used by British Explorer Sir Samuel Baler and his wife Florence Baker. This gives you an opportunity to see how the Victoria Nile plunges over 45 meters over the Remnant rift valley wall thus creating the amazing Murchison Falls. You will also be able to see the rainbow that appears on the top of the falls all day. After here, check in your lodge for evening accommodation. You are to camp at the top of the falls so expect to sleep to sounds of hippos, roaring lions, hyenas and so on.

 Day 4 Game drives and Nature walks

We wake up early for a morning game drive; this is a good time to spot lions, hyenas and the elusive leopard. Other animals you should expect include elephants, hartebeests, impalas, kobs, gazelles, giraffes, warthogs, buffaloes and so on. In the evening, we are to have a forest walk in Budongo Forest(optional). This is home to many birds including; yellow crested wood pecker, forest flycatcher, Abyssinian ground hornbill, black throated apalis, western black headed oriole and so on. It is also home to many primates such as the black and white colobus mokey, L’Hoest monkey, red tailed monkey, Olive baboons, chimpanzee, vervet monkeys and so on.

Day 5 Transfer to Hoima town

This morning, we have breakfast at leisure and then check out of Murchison Falls National Park as we proceed to Hoima town.  We are now  in Bunyoro Kingdom, a kingdom that was built and lost on ivory. We have a walk around this town and later visit the Karuziika Bunyoro Kingdom palace to learn about the history of the kingdom and the culture.

Day 6 Full Day birding /Shoe bill tracking

After breakfast, we are to visit Lake Albert and have a boat trip in search for birds. Lake Albert being rich in fish, it is home to many aquatic birds including king fishers, pelicans, herons. This is also one of the few areas in Uganda where one can spot the rare shoe bill stalk. We then return to Hoima town for rest as we get ready for a long drive tomorrow.

Day 7 Transfer to Kibale Forest

Having had breakfast, we embark on the long drive to Kibale Forest National Park. The whole journey will be through the green plant cover that Uganda is known for. We are to have lunch on the way and arrival will be in the evening.

Day 8 Chimpanzee tracking

After breakfast, you should be ready to walk inside the dense forest with a guide as you search for man’s closest relatives (The Chimpanzee) This walk takes 45 minutes to 6 hours depending on where you will find the chimps on that day. You will move with your packed lunch into Kibale Rain Forest which is home 13 primate species including, the white colobus, black colobus, red colobus, blue monkey bush babies nocturnal portal  the chimpanzees and many species of butter flies. You may also be able to see forest elephants which are not as big as their cousins in the savannah. Hiking gear such as gum boots/hiking shoes, water proof bag, insect repellent, hand gloves and a hat are needed since the weather here is unpredictable.

Day 9 Bigodi Swamp walk and hike to the Top of the World.(Optional)

Having had breakfast, we go for bird watching in the nearby  Bigodi swamp. Over 200 bird species including the yellow spotted Barbet, black and white shrike fly catcher, black bishop, purple and goliath herons and so on. Numerous animals such as mongoose, bush pigs, bush bucks, sitatunga, and chimpanzee frequently visit this swamp coming from Kibale Forest. In the evening, we hike through the Kasenda crater lakes to the famous Top of the World.

Day 10 Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Having had breakfast we drive to Queen Elizabeth National park and arrive in time for an afternoon boat trip. The boat trip on the Kazinga channel has always been among the highlights of a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is the water stream that joins lakes George and Edward and is said to have the highest concentration of hippos in the world. It is also among Africa’s best birding spots and the boat trip takes you about 3 hours. We then set up our tents and then have dinner at the famousTembo restaurant.

 Day 11 Game drives and game walk

This morning, we have an early game drive through Kasenyi. This is where you can spot the most antelopes such as, kobs, hartebeest, impalas, waterbucks, and so on.  In the evening we have a game walk in the Kyambura Gorge which leads us to the bats’ cave. Expect to see many bats and snakes (pythons) as they feed on them. This Gorge is also home to many primates and birds.

Day 12 Visit a salt Lake and a Fishing village

Having had breakfast, we visit the Katwe salt lake. This lake lies on a rift valley floor and has been in existence since the 16th century. It is the main source of income for people leaving in Katwe village. You will learn about how salt is extracted from salt pans and made ready for consumption. We then visit Lake Munyanyange. This is best area to spot large flocks of flamingos in Uganda. In the evening, we visit a fishing village on the shores of lake George . This will be time for fishermen to throw their nets. You will get to know about the economic activities and general life of people in this remote area. We shall also be able to know some of the fish species caught and drive back to our campsite for overnight.

Day 13 Transfer to Ishasha/Tree climbing lions

This morning, we are to have breakfast and drive to the southern sector of the park (Ishasha) which is famous for the rare tree climbing lions. These creatures tend to climb fig trees so as to cool their body temperature. This part of the park is also famous for large herds of elephants, topi,buffaloes, serval cats, civet cats, leopards, hyenas and so on.  We are to have an evening game drive before setting up our camping equipment at the UWA Camp site.

Day 14 Transfer to Bwindi

Today, you will have an early morning breakfast, a game drive and then travel to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. On your way there, you will see beautiful sceneries, the terraced hills and the ever green plant cover that defines Uganda.  Bwindi Impenatrable forest is home to more than half of the world’s surviving mountain gorillas, many other primates and many bird species.  Arrival will be in the late afternoon.

Day 15. Gorilla tracking.

After a mighty breakfast prepared by your accommodation, you enter the Impenetrable forest with your packed lunch to search for the endangered mountain gorillas. Be ready to walk for 45 minutes to 6  hours depending on where you will find the gorillas that day. Having encountered them, you will be given a full hour to interact with gorillas and then return to your accommodation. You will be close to a mountain gorilla, the most endangered and muscular primate on earth. This is one of the most breath taking experiences on earth. In case you return early, you will enjoy cultural dances from the local community before checking in your lodge.

Day 16. Lake Bunyonyi.

After having breakfast at leisure, you will be led by your guide to Uganda’s deepest and most beautiful lake. (lake Bunyonyi). It is also known as THE LAKE  OF 100 ISLANDS. This is some where you will feel relaxed after the tracking activities in Bwindi. While there, you can take part in a number of optional activities including, canoeing, bird watching, hiking to the nearby falls and forests, visiting a local community, swimming and so on. Note that only Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mutanda have been proved bilharzias free in Uganda and are safe to swim in.

Day 17 Golden monkey tracking/ Mountain Hiking.

 Very early in the morning, you will be transferred to Kisoro into Mgahinga Gorilla Park. This Park lies in the Virunga mountains which are shared by three countries (Uganda, Rwanda and Congo). It is also home to the endangered monkey specie (The golden monkey).  It is famous for golden monkey trekking and mountain hiking. There are three mountains available for hikers in the park. This morning you make a choice to either go for golden monkey tracking or mountain hiking.

Mountain Gahinga takes five hours to ascend and descend, Mountain Muhavura takes about seven hours whereas Mountain Sabinyo takes about eight hours.

However most of our clients prefer hiking Mountain Sabinyo because it is shared by three countries, Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. At the summit of the and final peak, you can put your right hand in Uganda, left hand in Congo one foot in Rwanda and the other in no man’s land. It is suitable for those who are not afraid of heights.

For golden monkey tracking, you may walk for one to six hours depending on where the monkeys  will be on that day. They are normally not hard to find. Having encountered them, you will spend a full hour with them.

Day 18 Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

This morning, you will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park. On your way there, expect to see beautiful sceneries and the famous long horned cattle of Ankore Kingdom. You will check in the park and set up camping equipment to relax.

Day 19 Game drives, Boat trip and walking safari.

We wakeup for an early morning game drive in search for the early risers. This is the only park in western Uganda with zebras, large herds of topi and eland. We then drive to the restaurant for late breakfast, and have a boat cruise on Lake Mburo. This boat trip gives you an opportunity to see a lot of game and bird species. After lunch, it is possible to take part in a number of optional activities and these include, cycling safari, walking safari, horseback riding. All these can bring you close to nature and wildlife.

Day 20 Transfer to Jinja

We wake up and have breakfast at leisure and later travel to the adventure capital of East Africa(Jinja).On our way there, we have a stop at Kayabwe(Equator village) for photo shooting. Equator is the imaginary line on the world map marked 00 and divides the world into the northern and the southern hemisphere. You will arrive in Jinja in time for lunch and later visit the source of the river Nile. This is the world’s longest river and today’s evening, you will see how it magically separates from Lake Victoria.

Day 21 Transfer to Kampala

After breakfast, you will have a number of activities to take part in and these are white water rafting, bungee jumping, kayaking, quad biking, fishing, horse riding. African Wild Tours is entitled to take care of one activity and if a client decides to take part in more than one, he or she will do so at an extra cost.

In the evening, we drive back to Kampala and you will dropped off to a destination of your choice in Kampala or Entebbe hence end of service.
