The Samburu National Reserve, located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro river in Kenya was one of the two areas where conservationists George Adamson and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness and made famous in the bestselling book and award-winning movie, "Born Free". The Samburu National Reserve is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting oryx calves.

Mt. Kenya is Kenya’s highest and Africa’s second highest mountain. Located deep within the largest forest reserve, it offers champagne-clear air, tranquil forest and a colourful cavalcade of wildlife.

Lake Nakuru is one of the alkaline Rift Valley lakes and a fantastic bird sanctuary, with its shores populated at times by more than one million flamingos; a sight that inspired the famous ornithologist Roger Tory Peterson to call it "the greatest bird spectacle on earth".

Masai Mara Game Reserve is Kenya’s finest and best-known game reserve. This traditional land of the Masai people, nomadic herders who choose a traditional lifestyle, comprises 200 square miles of open plains, woodlands and riverine forest. Contiguous with the plains of the Serengeti, the Mara is home to a breathtaking array of life.

Itinerary

Day 1

Nairobi

Day 1 Arrive in Nairobi On arrival at Nairobi, you will be met by an Active Holiday Company representative and dropped to the Hilton Hotel for the night. Centrally located in the heart of the shopping and business district areas, the Hilton Nairobi offers easy access to many local attractions including the Masai Craft market on weekends. Today, lunch and dinner today are by own arrangement. Meals: None.

Day 2

Nairobi | Samburu

Day 2 Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve; Safari After breakfast, you leave for Samburu Game Reserve. The drive will take you through the central highlands where you will be able to see large-scale coffee, flower and pineapple farming. You will stop briefly at the equator before arriving at the Samburu Game Reserve. You enjoy lunch at the camp, followed by game viewing in search of wildlife. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3

Samburu

Day 3 Samburu Game Reserve; Safari You head out on a morning game drive for sightings of wildlife, returning to the lodge in time for breakfast. The entire day is spent in Samburu Game reserve with morning and afternoon game drives. This semi-arid countryside is a bird lover's paradise. The game reserve is also unique as it is home to some wildlife which can only be found here. These include the gerenuk, reticulated giraffe and the gravy's zebra. Other wild animals including the 'big five' are also found here. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 4

Mount Kenya | Samburu

Day 4 Samburu Game Reserve - Mt. Kenya National Park; Safari After breakfast at the lodge, you drive to the Mt. Kenya National Park. You arrive in time for lunch at the lodge - the only ‘tree hotel’ ever to be built on the slopes of Kenya’s legendary Mount Kenya. You will have game viewing opportunities whilst combining a glorious panorama of mountain views with the primordial splendours of an ancient rainforest. Witness the trumpeting of an elephant, fall asleep to the symphony of the African night or sit in stillness and observe the fascinating interplay of the animals as they arrive to drink, bathe, spar and forage around the water hole. Day 5

Lake Nakuru

Day 5 Mt. Kenya National Park - Lake Nakuru National Park; Safari After breakfast, you drive to Lake Nakuru National Park in the Great Rift Valley. This drive takes you via the Thompson falls, a 73 m deep plunge. Lunch will be followed by an afternoon game viewing drive in the park. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 6

Lake Nakuru | Masai Mara

Day 6 Lake Nakuru National Park - Masai Mara Game Reserve; Safari After breakfast at Lake Nakuru Lodge, you drive to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya’s finest and best-known game reserve. You arrive in time for lunch. Your lodge will be located in the Masai Mara National Reserve, close to the Mara River, famous for the wildebeest migration. The greatest attraction in the Mara is watching the animals in their natural element; a lion's roar, a cheetah making a kill and big elephant herds are fascinating to watch. You will also meet the Masai, the inhabitants of this reserve and a proud and largely aloof tribe who have held on to their customs and traditions for hundreds of years. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 7

Masai Mara

Day 7 Masai Mara Game Reserve; Safari Another day is spent in the Mara with morning and afternoon game viewing drives across rolling plains, woodlands and rivers. There are very high chances of seeing the 'big five' today. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 8

Masai Mara | Nairobi

Day 8 Masai Mara Game Reserve - Nairobi, Departure; Safari After breakfast at the camp, you drive out of the Mara and head for Nairobi, enjoying a game viewing drive along the way. As you climb the eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley, your driver/ guide will stop at strategic viewpoints for photography. After lunch, you are dropped to Nairobi airport for your departure flight. You have the option to extend your trip to a holiday in the palm-fringed beaches of the Kenyan coast. Meals: Breakfast.
