Day 1
Kilimanjaro
Day 1 & 2 – Depart Home Country / Kilimanjaro Airport – Tanzania Arrive Kilimanjaro Airport via Amsterdam. Welcome to Tanzania! You are met on arrival by Safari Legacy and transferred to the Serena Mountain Village for overnight. (meals aloft)
Day 3
Arusha | Tarangire
Days 3 & 4 - Tarangire National Park After breakfast, we depart Arusha, traveling with picnic lunch to Tarangire National Park. The next two days we will explore Tarangire, enjoying morning and afternoon game drives. Here we observe a diversity of wildlife amidst the many baobab trees for which the park is famous. Tarangire, best known for its herds of elephant, and is home to more than 2,500 individuals. Other common mammals include Impala, African Buffalo, Common Zebra and Masai Giraffe. The park is also home to more than 260 bird species. We overnight at Maisha Kikoti Safari Camp, our tented chalets overlooking the park. (BLD)
Day 5
Lake Manyara
Day 5 – Lake Manyara National Park & Cultural Village Visit / Ngorongoro Highlands Today our journey takes us to Lake Manyara National Park. As we drive west across the Maasai plains toward Lake Manyara National Park occurs a dramatic change in habitat as grasslands give way to ground-water forest featuring sausage trees and strangler figs. Lake Manyara is a shallow alkaline lake, one of the many in the Rift Valley supporting vast flocks of flamingo. After our picnic lunch and game drive we drive to Karatu where we have an opportunity to experience and explore the Iraqw Cultural Village. We continue to the Ngorongoro Highlands where we overnight at the magnificent Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, located on the rim of the crater. (BLD)
Day 6
Ngorongoro Crater
Day 6 – Ngorongoro Crater After breakfast we travel to the Ngorongoro Crater, the Earth’s largest unbroken caldera. A veritable “Garden of Eden”, the Crater is reputed to contain the highest density of carnivores, which includes Cheetah, Leopard and Lion. This is the only place in East Africa where one can easily observe a natural population of black rhino. We enjoy a full day spent in the crater with picnic lunch. This evening we overnight at the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge. (BLD)
Day 7
Serengeti
Day 7 & 8 – Olduvai Gorge & Maasai Village / Serengeti National Park (Seronera Valley) Today we navigate around the crater’s rim descending to Olduvai Gorge, one of the most important prehistoric archaeological sites on Earth. It was here in the 1950’s that Louis and Mary Leakey first uncovered the fossilized teeth and skull of one of our earliest ancestors. After our interpretive presentation and museum visit, we continue to Tanzania’s most renowned national park, the Serengeti. Home to the greatest concentration of large mammals on Earth, the migratory herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle roam widely in search of green grass and water. Morning and afternoon drives. We spend two nights at the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge overlooking the acacia dotted savannah of the Serengeti. (BLD)
Day 9
Serengeti
Day 9 & 10 –Serengeti National Park (Western Or Northern Serengeti) Traveling west beyond the Seronera Valley, we enter the Western Corridor and Grumeti River region of the park (or will travel to the Northern Serengeti – will depend on time of year and migration movements) Famous for a population of huge Nile Crocodiles, the Grumeti is located in a lovely rolling hill and acacia woodland habitat. Morning and afternoon game drives each day will provide an opportunity to explore this great park which provides a year round habitat for many of the Serengeti’s bird and mammal species. Our next two nights are at Kirawira Tented Camp – Western Serengeti or Migration Camp – Northern Serengeti. (BLD)
Day 11
Arusha | Serengeti
Day 11- Serengeti / Arusha – Cultural Heritage / Depart After our morning game drive we fly back to Arusha. We are met on arrival and drive to the Cultural Heritage for lunch and last minute shopping for wood carvings and Tanzanite. We enjoy dayrooms at the Serena Mountain Village until our transfer to the airport this evening. (BL)
