Day 1
Arusha | Kilimanjaro | Tarangire
Day 1 & 2– Arrival Kilimanjaro – Arusha /Tarangire National Park (155km/ 2.5 hours drive) Welcome to Tanzania, discover this wild and rugged country and embrace the space! Upon your arrival into Kilimanjaro Airport and after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met by your Safari Legacy representative in new 4 x 4 custom built land cruiser, your safari adventure starts here! You will have a brief stop at Shanga in Arusha for lunch and continue to Tarangire National Park the third largest national park in Tanzania. You are heading to a very unique camp called Maisha Kikoti for two nights full board and has great game viewing on its doorstep. It is located on the main wildlife corridor of the park and everything is authentically African and hand made, it is a wilderness experience in its own right. With a strong conservation focus you stay in wonderfully comfortable deluxe thatched chalets, enjoy drinks around the camp fire and absorb and experience the wonderful surrounding game and landscapes. Arriving at the remote location of the camp is a real adventure, you are driven along the river and via the Silale swamp where you will immediately start experiencing how wonderful this park is, if you want an evening game drive on your first night let us share the wildlife with you! Kikoti is one of the very few camps in the park that due to its unique location can offer guests evening game drives which are a wonderful way to discover the wildlife and remote landscapes and it’s the nearest lodge to the Silale swamp (5km away) a magnet for the wildlife. Here you will observe a diversity of wildlife amidst the many baobab trees for which the park is famous. Tarangire, best known for its herds of elephant, it is home to more than 2,500 individuals and in the dry season herds of up to 400 elephants can be seen a few kilometers from the camp playing and lounging around the swamp. The following day you will enjoy morning ,afternoon game drives and optional full day drives with picnic lunches.. We don’t limit your drives and you can even also experience walking safari’s and nature walks at Kikoti led by the local Maasai. With evening entertainment and lots of activities there is lots to experience in and around the camp and staying two nights ensures you see and experience the best of Tarangire. Being walked to and from your room by the local Maasai throws you back in time, you will go to be excited about your ongoing safari adventures!
Day 3
Tarangire
Day 3 – Tarangire - Ngorongoro highlands (140km/ 2.5 hours drive) This morning you depart Tarangire for the Ngorongoro highlands, along the way you will stop and discover the local village of Muto Wambu. Here you will experience real village life, the local market and have lunch in a local homestay where you will see learn how the local dishes are prepared and enjoy the hospitality of the local Tanzanian’s. You can also visit banana plantations and rice fields and a must is a stop in a local Maasai village and enjoy the traditional welcome dances! The off road driving is an exciting experience as you go up higher and higher into the wilderness to Endoro Lodge – situated at Karatu area (B/L/D). In the late afternoon you can also enjoy the nature trails and waterfalls around the lodge
Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater | Serengeti
Day 4 & 5 – Ngorongoro – Olduvai Gorge – Serengeti National Park (Central Serengeti) (215Km/3.5hours drive) Leaving early about 6am you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the Earth’s largest unbroken caldera. A veritable “Garden of Eden”, the Crater is reputed to contain the highest density of carnivores, which includes Cheetah, Leopard and Lion. This is the only place in East Africa where one can easily observe a natural population of Black Rhino. After a fruitful game drive and picnic lunches, ascend and driving around the crater’s rim you descend to Olduvai Gorge. Olduvai Gorge is one of the most important prehistoric archaeological sites on Earth. After Viewing the Gorge and listening to an interpretive presentation, you arrive in the Serengeti, Tanzania’s most renowned national park and home to the greatest concentration of large mammals on Earth, the migratory herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle roam widely in search of green grass and water. You will be staying for 2 nights in a small deluxe eight tented mobile camp on a fully inclusive basis (all meals, all drinks and laundry). This is the highlight of your safari, you are in the wilderness of Africa with game viewing all around you and by staying is such a small unique camp you are having your very own “Out of Africa” experience. With no electricity and just oil lamps you are transported back in time and will be sitting around the camp fire contemplating the beauty of the area and it’s amazing wildlife, this is the Africa that you have come to see and experience and you won’t be disappointed. On arrival you might want sundowners, watching the majestic colours of the African sunsets and will dine in comfortable open sided dining tents with a la carte dinners amongst the oil lamps. The following day you will have game drives at your leisure and track the wildlife in the area, the Serengeti never disappoints and the location of the camp has been chosen to ensure you see the best of the wildlife in the area. After sundowners, yummy canapés and drinks in the remote wilderness you will have dinner really in the bush. We hang oil lanterns off nearby Acacia tree’s and serve you a la carte dinners under the stars, afterwards you can relax with a cognac around the camp fire. You will be in awe of Africa and will be reflecting on all the adventures you have had and will be saying to each other, you will come back to Africa soon to discover more of it’s beauty and splendor.
Day 6
Arusha | Kilimanjaro | Serengeti
Day 6 – Serengeti – fly Arusha - Depart Today you have an early morning game drive on route to the little airstrip in Seronera for your flight to Arusha ( 1 hour). This is a wonderful experience in its own right as you board a small 12 seater plane and fly low over the remote wilderness, over volcanic mountains and the plains of Africa. This option means you don’t have to have the long drive of 8-10 hours back to Arusha and will get a birds eye view of Africa that will stay with you forever. Arriving at Arusha airport you will stop for a lunch at cultural heritage and then be driven to Kilimanjaro for your onward connections home or onto Zanzibar to relax on its glorious beaches.
