Safari summary
This safari is ideal if your wish is to:
◾Expose your children to wild animals in their natural habitats
◾Get to know the local culture in Tanzania
◾Stay in affordable but very well run tented camps and lodges
◾Enjoy adventurous activities outside of the safari vehicle
We have a lot of experience when it comes to family safaris, with activities on offer to make a safari much more family friendly.
Energetic teenagers or active children will probably enjoy their safari a lot more if they can get out of the car once in a while to go canoeing, biking or walking. We will design a private itinerary for you. For larger families, we will ensure you have enough vehicles so that space is not an issue, and enough guides to ensure individual care and attention.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arusha | Kilimanjaro
Days 1 & 2 Arrival Tanzania –Arusha National park – Canoeing – Rivertrees Lodge Today you will arrive at Kilimanjaro airport. Your driver/guide will be waiting for you and will drive you about 45 minutes from the airport to Rivertrees Lodge. A lovely dinner is still waiting for you, spend the rest of the evening relaxing before you start your safari! The next morning our guide will take you to Arusha National Park. You will go for a game drive, and you also have the opportunity to go for a canoeing trip on Small Momella Lake. It is an incredible experience to glide over the water in the midst of a national park. Get close to buffaloes and giraffes grazing on the shore, and get to see hippos up close and personal (don’t worry, our guide knows how to keep you safe)! On a clear day the view of both Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro can be stunning. Having enjoyed the scenery and the wildlife, you return to Rivertrees for the night. Rivertrees is a cosy and verdant lodge with great service and a nice personal atmosphere.
Day 3
Arusha | Lake Manyara | Tarangire
Day 3 Tarangire National Park – Game drive – Maramboi Tented Lodge This morning you will leave Arusha behind and your driver will take you for a game drive in Tarangire National Park. Tarangire National Park is a unique park, close on proximity to Lake Manyara, and absolutely fantastic at this time of year– you will most likely see many elephants, and innumerous baobabs are always a guarantee. In the dry season the wildlife in Tarangire is just phenomenal – part of the migration actually passes through this park. You will go on a game drive inside the park today for as long as you want (during the daylight). At the end of the day your driver will bring you to Maramboi Tented Lodge. Maramboi Tented Lodge is a lovely camp located outside the park, but not very far away from the entrance gate. Comfortable, tastefully furnished tents are complemented by tasty food and an incredible view of the Rift Valley escarpment. Maramboi Tented Camp is very conveniently located and can easily be reached by road.
Day 4
Day 4 Biking down the rift valley – Local lunch – visit orphanage – Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge Today you will start off with a biking trip down the Great Rift Valley escarpment – the view of Manyara Park is just incredible! This ride is an excellent introduction into daily life in a typical Tanzanian village. You will bike in and around the village of Mto wa Mbu. The ride ends at the border of Manyara National Park. Afterwards you will enjoy a flavorful local lunch prepared for you by a lady from the village. In the afternoon you will be brought to Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge. By staying here you will automatically sponsor the orphanage of Rhotia, which lies only one hilltop away. This afternoon you will have the opportunity to pass by and play, laugh and interact with the children here. Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge is beautifully located just outside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, but from out of your tent you can look right at it. To get to the lodge you will make your way through flower plantations and most likely there will be local children along the road waving at you. This relatively new lodge is not only spectacular for its views, but also the food, service and atmosphere are what you wish it to be.
Day 5
Ngorongoro Crater
Day 5 Ngorongoro Crater – game drive – Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge Today you will visit the the Ngorongoro Crater! This imploded volcano is the world’s largest unflooded complete caldera - the floor lies some 2,000 feet below the rim - not only a stunning landscape, but also brimming with wildlife. You can spend the full day game driving on the crater floor and in time for dinner your driver will bring you to Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge.
Day 6
Ngorongoro Crater | Serengeti
Days 6, 7 & 8 Serengeti National Park – Game drive – Dunia Camp Today you will drive from the Ngorongoro Crater towards the Serengeti National Park. On the way you will have the opportunity to make a stop at the historical site; Olduvai Gorge. Visit the museum or even go down the Gorge if you wish and then you will drive onwards towards the middle of the Serengeti National Park. As the plains stretch out before you, you find yourself in the Serengeti - it is only when you get into it that the vastness of the place becomes real. You will drive into the Central part of the park, which is rich with diverse wildlife. You will stay at Dunia Camp, which is remote and quiet yet in close proximity to the best wildlife viewing in the park. Dunia Camp has fantastic service and a really wonderful, authentic atmosphere.
Day 9
Arusha | Kilimanjaro | Serengeti
Day 9 Flight back to Kilimanjaro – End of the safari This morning you will enjoy a game drive and your last breakfast in the bush. Afterwards the guide of the camp will bring you to the airstrip in the Serengeti from where you will have a flight back to Arusha or onwards to Zanzibar…
