Arrival in Arusha

Welcome to Tanzania! You will be picked up from the airport by a Meerkat Expedition representative and driven to your accommodation in Arusha. Depending on your arrival time, you will hopefully have time to relax and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime! Busy Arusha is an essential part of safari life here in northern Tanzania and most travellers pass through at some stage.

Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, your Meerkat Expedition guide picks you up for a 2.5-hour drive to Tarangire National Park. Known for its river, elephants, and ancient baobabs, the park hosts giraffes, bushbucks, hartebeests, lions, leopards, and many bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park, then continue to Karatu for your overnight stay.

After breakfast, drive through Ngorongoro Conservation Area with a stop at Ngorongoro Crater, then continue to Serengeti National Park. Famous for vast plains and the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra, wildlife viewing is excellent year-round. Accommodation for the next 3 nights is flexible, based on migration location.

This entire day is set aside for game drives in the Serengeti. We will drive toward North for the Migration. The Serengeti boasts an abundance of wildlife such as impalas, buffalos, crocodiles, and hippos. In addition to the iconic landscapes, you have a good chance of encountering predators and you may see lions, cheetahs and leopards. Depending on the location of the Great Migration, you may venture away from the Central region to experience this natural wonder.

This is another day set aside for game drives in the Serengeti. It is possible to have a more relaxed pace, and do early morning and late afternoon game drives. You will be returning to your accommodation for lunch and some relaxation. Every day is different in the Serengeti and there is always plenty to explore.

After breakfast, depart from Northern Serengeti and enjoy a scenic game drive en route as you journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This is a full-day drive through the vast plains of Serengeti, offering final opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. Arrive at the Ngorongoro Crater rim in the late afternoon, where you will check in to your lodge and enjoy breathtaking views over the crater. Dinner and overnight at the lodge on the crater rim.

Ngorongoro to Arusha

Drive to Ngorongoro Crater, a vast caldera of savannah, forests, and lakes formed millions of years ago. Descend to the crater floor to see wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, rich birdlife, and possibly endangered black rhinos. After a full game drive, return to Arusha or transfer to the airport of your choice.
